DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 15, 2023) – Mercy College field hockey graduate student Alyssa Sacco (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) has been named the third most efficient graduate student in Division II Field Hockey by Allison Keefe, a field hockey analyst.
Alyssa is completing her fourth year at Mercy College, meeting the requirements to graduate one year ahead of schedule last year with a bachelor's degree Summa Cum Laude and will be walking this week to accept her master's degree with Distinction. She is a four-year Scholar Athlete and has been inducted into the Phi Theta Alpha History National Honor Society and was chosen to represent Mercy College at the 4th Annual Undergraduate History Research Conference and Phi Alpha Theta New England Regional Conference at the Manhattan campus on April 15th. At the conference, Alyssa was recognized as second runner-up for her work on her paper, "The Unrelenting Gaze: The Effects of Beauty Standards and Advertising on Working-Class American Women." This paper was based upon her senior thesis in history at Mercy. She has also been inducted into the Teachers National Honor Society.
Alyssa overcame a bi-lateral leg surgery for compartment syndrome her sophomore year that could have ended her playing career, only to return and set individual player records her senior year. She was the first student-athlete in program history to be named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team and she's been named a two-time NE10 Conference Academic All-Conference recipient. Alyssa has also been named an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, has been named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and has been tabbed to the ECC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
This past season, Alyssa was named Second Team All-NE10 and was named NE10 Player of the Week once. She recorded a school-record of 10 goals and 26 points during the 2022 season and was second on the team with six assists. Sacco helped lead the Mavericks to their first-ever winning record, most overall wins and most NE10 wins in a season.
Alyssa ends her stellar playing career with the Mavericks fourth in program history in goals (15), second in assists (12) and third in points (42).
