Rosenfeld Records Game-High Two Goals and Two Assists as Field Hockey Earns 5-1 Win Over Molloy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 20, 2023) – Powered by a game-high two goals and two assists from senior Kelly Rosenfeld (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), the Mercy University field hockey team earned a 5-1 win over NE10 foe Molloy University on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (3-2, 2-0 NE10) have won two games in a row and start 2-0 in NE10 play for the first time in program history. Mercy defeats the Lions (0-5, 0-3 NE10) for the eighth straight time.

Mercy was led by Rosenfeld who had a game-high two goals and two assists and now has three goals and a team-high-tying four assists on the year. Senior Rieley Fitzgerald (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) recorded her second goal of the season and senior Kate Ringstad (Woodstock, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) contributed her third goal and second assist of the season. Senior Ally Schreck (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) netted her first goal of the season and dished out her fourth assist of the season. Junior Alexandra Giordano (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) made two saves to earn her second win of the season.

Molloy was led by Gianna Mastrocco who scored and by Kelsey Price who made a game-high 13 saves.

Fitzgerald gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute of action, off an assist from Rosenfeld. The Lions evened the score at 1-1 in the 10th minute, following a Mastrocco goal, and the teams ended the first quarter tied at 1-1.

Rosenfeld put the Mavericks in front for good in the 21st minute when she scored off a breakaway following a nice feed from Schreck to make it 2-1. The score remained 2-1 heading into halftime.

Schreck made it 3-1 in the 43rd minute after Rosenfeld's second assist of the game and Ringstad increased the Mavericks lead to 4-1 in the 44th minute. Mercy maintained a 4-1 lead after three quarters.

Rosenfeld netted her second goal of the game in the 57th minute, tipping home a Ringstad shot attempt, after a Fitzgerald corner to give Mercy a commanding 5-1 lead. The Mavericks cruised the rest of the way en route to the 5-1 victory and 2-0 start in NE10 play.

Mercy held a 29-7 edge in shots and a 21-3 edge in shots on goal. Mercy also held a 15-7 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 23rd when they host Assumption at 1 p.m.
