Six Different Mavericks Score as Field Hockey Earns 10-0 Win at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Sept. 6, 2023) – Powered by six different Mavericks scoring, the Mercy University field hockey team earned a convincing 10-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday night at Redhawks Field.

The Mavericks (1-1) pick up their first win of the season and defeat the Redhawks (0-3) in the teams' first-ever meeting. The 10 goals scored by Mercy are a school record and the 10-goal margin of victory is also a school record.

Mercy was led by senior Rachel Palladino (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) who had a career-high three goals and by senior Kate Ringstad (Woodstock, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) who had a career-high two goals. Junior Jessica Evans (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota) scored her first two collegiate goals and sophomore Samantha Trickel (Ottsville, Pa./Palisades) scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist. Junior Kasey Volz (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) and senior Kelly Rosenfeld (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) also scored and senior Ally Schreck (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) had two assists. Senior Rieley Fitzgerald (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) had an assist and sophomore Rebecca McClure (Canastota, N.Y./Pace University) made one save to earn her first collegiate win in her first start as a Maverick.

Roberts Wesleyan was led by Maddison O'Moore who had a shot on goal. Avery Richardson made a season-high 31 saves.

Richardson made four saves in the first quarter to keep the game scoreless until Evans scored her first collegiate goal in the 9th minute to make it 1-0. Evans found the back of the cage a second time in the 12th minute, following a Schreck assist, to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Palladino netted her first goal of the game in the 19th minute following a Fitzgerald corner to give Mercy a 3-0 lead. Palladino recorded her second goal of the game in the 26th minute, after another assist from Schreck, to put the Mavericks up, 4-0. Ringstad later made it 5-0 in the 28th minute and Palladino scored her final goal of the game in the 30th minute, off an assist from Fitzgerald, to give Mercy a 6-0 lead at halftime.

The score remained 6-0 until the 50th minute when Trickel netted her first collegiate goal to make it 7-0. Ringstad followed with an unassisted goal in the 54th minute to put the Mavericks up, 8-0. Rosenfeld and Volz capped off the scoring for Mercy in the 55th and 58th minutes to give Mercy a commanding 10-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Mercy held a 49-1 edge in shots and a 41-1 edge in shots on goal. The Mavericks also held a 23-0 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, September 13th when they host Kutztown at 4 p.m.
