WALTHAM, Mass. (Oct. 12, 2024) – Despite one save from junior Rebecca McClure (Canastota, N.Y./Pace University), the Mercy University field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision at NE10 foe Bentley University on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks (5-6, 2-5 NE10) have dropped five games in a row and fall to 0-6 all-time against the Falcons (7-5, 6-1 NE10). The one-goal loss is the smallest margin of defeat in the six all-time meetings against Bentley.
Mercy was led by McClure who made one save to take the loss. Graduate student Kelly Rosenfeld (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) had a game-high three shots and one shot on goal.
Bentley was led by Libby Harrison who scored and by Erin McGuinness who made one save to earn the win in goal.
Both goalkeepers made a save in the first quarter to keep the game scoreless after one quarter of play.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when Harrison scored following a Gracie Moore penalty corner. Bentley headed into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Mercy was unable to find the equalizer in the second half and Bentley earned the 1-0 win.
Bentley held an 8-5 edge in shots and a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Bentley also held a 9-3 edge in penalty corners.
Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday when they host New Haven at 3:30 p.m.
