Trickel and Palladino Score as Field Hockey Plays at Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H. (Oct. 26, 2024) – Despite goals from junior Samantha Trickel (Ottsville, Pa./Palisades) and senior Rachel Palladino (Latham, N.Y./Shaker), the Mercy University field hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision at NE10 foe Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field.

The Mavericks (6-9, 3-8 NE10) have dropped eight of their last nine games and fall to the Ravens (3-13, 3-8 NE10) for the first time since 2019.

Mercy was led by Trickel who netted her fourth goal of the season and by Palladino who recorded her fourth goal of the year. Freshman Charlotte Sabert (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) dished out her team-leading fourth assist of the year and junior Rebecca McClure (Canastota, N.Y./Pace University) made a game-high six saves to take the loss.

Franklin Pierce was led by Reese Swanson, Olivia O'Brien and Caity Hazley who scored. Addy Araneo made four saves to earn the win.

Hazley gave the Ravens a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. McClure stopped two shots in the opening quarter to keep Franklin Pierce ahead by just one goal at the end of the quarter.

Trickel evened the score at 1-1 in the 18th minute following a penalty corner. McClure made one more save in the quarter and the game remained tied at 1-1 at halftime.

McClure recorded two more saves in the third quarter to keep the score at 1-1 after three quarters.

Palladino opened the fourth quarter with a goal in the 48th minute from Sabert, giving Mercy a 2-1 lead. Swanson tied the game at 2-2 in the 54th minute after a Cecelia Keller corner. McClure made her final save in the 55th minute to keep the game tied. O'Brien scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute, off a pass from Swanson, after a Keller penalty corner to give the Ravens a 3-2 lead. Mercy could not find the equalizer and Franklin Pierce earned the 3-2 win.

Shots were tied at 11-11 and Franklin Pierce held a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. Franklin Pierce also held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, October 29th when they host Saint Anselm at 3:30 p.m.
