DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2024) – Powered by goals from seniors Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J./University of Bridgeport) and Skyler Schwenkler (San Diego, Calif./Grossmont) and junior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday afternoon in their Making Strides Versus Cancer Pink Game at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (6-4-1) have won three games in a row, while the Griffins (1-5-1) have dropped three games in a row.
Mercy was led by Dixon who scored the game-winning goal and now has a team-high eight goals on the year. Washington added her second goal of the season and Schwenkler netted her third goal of the year. Junior Anna Deutscher (Heidenheim, Germany/Monroe CC) added two assists and now has three assists on the year. Freshman Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) made four saves to post her fourth shutout of the year.
Chestnut Hill was led by Antonia Linus who had a team-high three shots. Haley Esposito made four saves to take the loss.
Dixon gave Mercy a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute of action when she took a Deutscher through ball from beyond midfield and fired the ball into the corner of the net to give the Mavericks an early lead.
Mercy took a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute when Washington scored on a tough angle shot, finishing in the upper corner of the net. The Mavericks headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead with Becker making two saves in the frame.
Schwenkler made it 3-0 in the 67th minute when she headed in a Deutscher corner kick. The Mavericks backline did not surrender a shot on goal in the final 20 minutes of play, giving Mercy the 3-0 shutout win.
Mercy held a 15-9 edge in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 12th when they play at Staten Island at 12 p.m.
