WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Mar. 11, 2024) – Mercy University softball graduate student Angelina Oquendo (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) and freshman Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) have been named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Softball Honor Roll for Week Four.
Oquendo went 1-0 in the circle with a team-best 0.82 ERA and nine strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched over four games. The graduate student opened her season pitching 8.0 innings with one earned run allowed and four strikeouts to earn the win over Ferris State on Thursday. The pitcher then tossed 3.0 scoreless innings against Cedarville on Friday before ending the day with 2.1 scoreless innings pitched against Davenport. Oquendo ended the week with 4.0 innings pitched and one earned run allowed against Franklin Pierce on Sunday.
Miller hit .333 (8-for-24) in her first week as a Maverick with three RBI, two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles in eight games. The freshman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double in Mercy's win over Ferris State on Thursday. The shortstop then went 1-for-4 with a run against Davenport on Friday and 2-for-3 against Ferris State on Saturday. Miller went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double in Mercy's win over Ursuline on Saturday and ended the week going 1-for-1 with a run and two stolen bases against Illinois-Springfield on Sunday.
The awards are the first for both this season and the first for Mercy this season.
Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, March 17th when they play at Georgian Court at 12 p.m.
