WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (May 1, 2024) – Mercy University women's lacrosse junior Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Lacrosse Defender of the Year, headlining nine Mavericks named to the ECC All-Conference Teams. Shimborske, juniors Leah Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and Leena Moussa (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), graduate student Erin Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Adelphi University) and senior Christina Lopreato (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) were named First Team All-ECC and sophomores Andrea Mott (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) and Emily Marino (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and seniors Kelly Rosenfeld (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Carly Diolosa (Brookhaven, N.Y./Bellport) were tabbed Second Team All-ECC.
Shimborske is named ECC Defender of the Year for the second straight year after being named ECC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year prior to the start of this season. The junior has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week once this season and has appeared in and started in 16 games with two goals, 48 ground balls, 37 caused turnovers and 101 draw controls. Shimborske leads the team in ground balls, caused turnovers and draw controls. She is second in the ECC in caused turnovers per game, ground balls per game and draw controls per game. The junior recorded her 100th career ground ball, 100th career caused turnover and 200th career draw control this season.
Hansen is tabbed All-Conference for the first time after being named ECC Offensive Player of the Week two times. The junior has a team-high 67 points on a team-high 59 goals with eight assists to go with 10 caused turnovers. Hansen leads the ECC in goals and goals per game (3.47) and is fourth in points per game (3.94). Hansen recorded her 100th career goal and 100th career point during the season. The junior had a career-high nine points on seven goals and two assists in Mercy's win at Daemen on April 28th.
Moussa receives First Team All-Conference honors for the second straight season after being named ECC Offensive Player of the Week once. The junior has 64 points with 46 goals and 18 assists, ranking second on the team in points, goals and assists. Moussa ranks sixth in the ECC in goals per game (2.71) and points per game (3.76). The junior recorded her 100th career goal and 100th career point during the season. She had a career-high nine points on six goals and three assists in the win over Molloy on April 10th.
Shimborske is named First Team All-ECC for the second straight season after being named Second Team All-ECC in 2022 and 2021. The graduate student has appeared in 17 games making six starts with 11 goals, nine assists, 20 points, 26 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. The midfielder ranks third on the team in ground balls and recorded her 100th career ground ball during the season. She had two caused turnovers and a season-high four ground balls in the win over New Haven on February 28th.
Lopreato is tabbed First Team All-ECC for the first time after being named Second Team All-ECC the last two seasons. The one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week has started all 17 games and has 64 draw controls, 19 caused turnovers, 23 ground balls, one goal and one assist. She is second on the team in caused turnovers and draw controls. The senior recorded her 100th career draw control during the season and had a season-high four caused turnovers with six draw controls and two ground balls at West Chester on February 24th.
Mott takes home All-Conference honors for the first time. The sophomore has started all 17 games and has 15 goals, 26 assists, 41 points and 19 ground balls. She leads the team in assists and is third in points. Mott had a season-high eight points on a goal and seven assists in wins over STAC and D'Youville.
Marino is named All-Conference for the first time. The sophomore has appeared in all 17 games making 13 starts with 23 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Marino had a season-high two caused turnovers with three ground balls in the win over Molloy on April 10th.
Rosenfeld is tabbed Second Team All-ECC for the second straight season and is named All-Conference for the third straight season. The senior has appeared in all 17 games making 16 starts with 11 goals, 13 assists, 24 points, 31 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. She ranks second on the team in ground balls and recorded her 100th career point and 100th career ground ball during the season. Rosenfeld had a season-high three goals against Florida Southern on March 9th.
Diolosa receives All-Conference recognition for the first time. The senior has started all 17 games and has two assists, 13 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. She had a season-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls in the win over Molloy on April 10th.
