DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2024) – Powered by a hat-trick from junior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and a game-high three assists from junior Ella Brower (Huntington Station, N.Y./The College of Saint Rose), the Mercy University women's soccer team earned a 4-0 win over Felician University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (2-2) have won two games in a row and defeat the Golden Falcons (0-2-2) for the first time since 2007.
Mercy was led by Dixon who had a career-high three goals and now has a team-high five goals and 12 points on the year. Brower recorded her first three assists as a Maverick and sophomore Ella Gallino (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) scored her first collegiate goal. Freshman Hailey Metzger (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) added her third assist of the season and freshman Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) made two saves to earn her first collegiate shutout win.
Felician was led by Makenna Lesczynski who had a shot on goal. Zoe Pite made 11 saves in 65:59 minutes of action to take the loss.
Dixon gave the Mavericks a quick 2-0 lead with goals in the 3rd and 8th minutes of action, following assists from Brower.
Dixon later made it 3-0 in the 20th minute after taking a pass from Metzger, following a corner kick, and firing the ball into the upper corner of the net.
Gallino increased the Mavericks' lead to 4-0 in the 33rd minute when she fired a shot from well outside the box into the upper corner of the net, after another Brower assist, to give Mercy a commanding four-goal lead.
Mercy headed into halftime with a 4-0 lead with the Mavericks backline allowing just one shot in the opening 45 minutes.
Becker was forced to make one save in the second half, but that was the only shot Mercy's backline allowed in the second half. The Mavericks cruised the rest of the way to the 4-0 win.
Mercy held a 22-2 edge in shots and a 17-2 edge in shots on goal. Mercy held a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, September 17th when they host Saint Anselm at 3 p.m.
