Dixon Scores as No. 11 Women's Soccer Hosts Southern New Hampshire

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — Despite a goal from senior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the No. 11 Mercy University Women's Soccer Team dropped a 2-1 decision to Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (10-1-1) suffer their first loss of the season and fall to the Penmen (3-5-2) for the third straight time.

The match between the Mavericks and the Penmen started with Southern N.H. aggressively attacking, leading to multiple corner kicks and shots in the first 15 minutes. Sophomore Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) made crucial saves, especially stopping a shot from Imogen Noon in the 14th minute. Dixon broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, scoring with an assist from sophomore Hailey Metzger (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) . The first half concluded with Mercy leading 1-0, despite Southern N.H.'s persistent offensive efforts.

Mercy started the second half with a series of offensive attempts, including an early shot by Dixon at the 47th minute and another by senior Ella Brower (Huntington Station, N.Y./The College of Saint Rose) that hit the right post in the 61st minute. Southern N.H. responded with a crucial save by goalkeeper Claudia Keith at 54:41, stopping a shot from Metzger. The Penmen tied the score in the 81st minute when Avary Hall scored for Southern N.H. with an assist from Georgia Greene, leveling the score at 1-1. Just six minutes later, Greene found the net herself with an assist from Carly Schofield, securing a 2-1 lead for Southern N.H. Mercy's attempts to equalize, including a final shot by freshman Camila Salvador (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) hitting the right post, were unsuccessful as the match ended 2-1 in favor of Southern N.H.

Dixon scored one goal and had one of her three shots on target in the match. Metzger contributed an assist and also recorded two shots on goal. Salvador and Brower each posted two shots. Becker, in goal, made four saves while facing 13 shots on frame.

Greene contributed significantly with one goal and one assist, leading the team with four shots. Hall added a goal to her tally, converting her only shot on target. Schofield provided a crucial assist and recorded two shots on goal. Keith made three saves while facing eleven shots, conceding only once in the match.

Southern N.H. held a 13-11 edge in shots, an 8-4 edge in shots on goal and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

The next challenge for the Mavericks awaits as they travel to face Roberts Wesleyan University on October 18. The matchup is set for 1 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
