COLONIA, N.J. (Feb. 24, 2025) – Mercy University men's lacrosse senior Ryan Smith (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week and freshman Gavin Lamere (Plainview, N.Y./Herricks) has been tabbed Defensive Player of the Week for Week Two. Freshman Cole Hunsberger (Waterloo, Ontario/Grand River Collegiate Institute) has been named to the Honor Roll.
Smith accounted for more than half of Mercy's scoring efforts in the Mavs' 15-3 win over Georgian Court on Tuesday, dropping a game-high nine points on six goals and three assists.
Lamere had a team-high seven caused turnovers to go with nine ground balls as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The freshman opened the week with a game-high three caused turnovers to go with five ground balls in Mercy's win at Georgian Court on Tuesday and ended the week with a game-high four caused turnovers to go with four ground balls against No. 10/14 Bentley on Sunday.
Hunsberger posted six points on two goals and four assists to go with four ground balls and two caused turnovers as Mercy went 1-1 on the week. The freshman opened the week with one goal and four assists in the win at Georgian Court on Tuesday. Hunsberger ended the week with a goal, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers against No. 10/14 Bentley on Sunday.
The award is the second for both Smith and Hunsberger this season and the first for Lamere. Mercy has now earned eight awards on the year.
Head Coach Ryan MacSpadyen and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday when they host Adelphi at 2 p.m.
