COLONIA, N.J. (Mar. 10, 2025) – Mercy University softball freshman Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Softball Rookie of the Week for Week Three and graduate student Mia Harris (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison), seniors Madilyn Lula (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) and Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Stonehill College) and freshman Mikaela Mammola (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) have been tabbed to the Honor Roll.
McSweeney went 1-0 in the circle with a 2.63 ERA in 8.0 innings with eight strikeouts in two appearances. The freshman opened the week with 4.0 scoreless innings of relief in her collegiate debut with five strikeouts against Holy Family on Friday. McSweeney ended the week with 4.0 innings pitched with three runs allowed and three strikeouts to earn her first collegiate win against Cedarville on Saturday.
Harris hit .286 (2-for-7) with one RBI as Mercy went 1-3 on the week. The graduate student went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Mercy's win over Cedarville on Saturday.
Lula hit a team-high .571 (4-for-7) with two RBI, two doubles, one triple, one run, and one stolen base as Mercy went 1-3 on the week. The senior opened the week going 2-for-2 with a triple against Southern New Hampshire on Friday. The first baseman ended the week going 2-for-2 with two RBI, two doubles and a run scored in the win over Cedarville on Saturday.
Brandemarte went 0-1 in the circle with one save, a 0.55 ERA and seven strikeouts in 12.2 innings pitched across three appearances. The senior opened the week with 7.0 innings pitched and no earned runs allowed to go with two strikeouts against Southern N.H. on Friday. The pitcher then pitched 2.2 innings of relief with no earned runs allowed and four strikeouts against 2024 NCAA Tournament participant Gannon on Saturday. Brandemarte ended the week with 3.0 innings pitched and one run allowed to earn the save in Mercy's win over Cedarville on Saturday.
Mammola hit .333 (2-for-6) with two runs and two stolen bases as Mercy went 1-3 on the week. The freshman went 1-for-3 against Holy Family on Friday and 1-for-3 with two runs and two stolen bases in the win over Cedarville on Saturday.
The award is the first for McSweeney this season, the first for Harris, the first for Lula, the second for Brandemarte and the first for Mammola. Mercy has now earned nine awards on the year.
Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action today when they face New Haven at 4:45 p.m. and Bloomfield at 7 p.m. in Florida.
