McSweeney Headlines Four Mavericks Named to ECC Softball Weekly Report

COLONIA, N.J. (Apr. 21, 2025) – Mercy University softball freshman Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Softball Rookie of the Week for Week Nine and senior Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Stonehill College) and sophomores Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) and Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) have been tabbed to the Honor Roll.

McSweeney threw a complete game, one-hit shutout with three strikeouts and just one walk allowed to earn the 4-0 win in Game 2 against D'Youville. The Saints had entered the game as the top-hitting team in the ECC, but McSweeney held them with 10 ground outs and eight fly outs to accompany her three Ks on the day. 

Brandemarte went 2-1 in the circle with a 1.67 ERA in 21.0 innings with 10 strikeouts and three complete games. The senior opened the week allowing three earned runs in the loss against first-place STAC on Tuesday. The Mercy pitcher then allowed one earned run with six strikeouts to earn the win in Game 1 at Queens on Thursday. Brandemarte ended the week allowing one run with four strikeouts to earn the win in game one over D'Youville on Saturday. The senior recorded her 300th career strikeout in the win.

Miller hit .353 (6-for-17) with three runs, one RBI, and a team-high four doubles as Mercy went 3-3 on the week. The sophomore went 4-for-6 with a run and an RBI in the split at Queens on Thursday before ending the week going 2-for-3 with two runs in the Game 1 win over D'Youville on Saturday. 

Reyer hit a team-high .538 (7-for-13) with three runs, two RBI, a double and a triple as Mercy went 3-3 on the week. The sophomore opened the week going 1-for-2 against STAC on Tuesday before going 2-for-6 in the split at Queens on Thursday. The Mercy outfielder then went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs in the Game 1 win over D'Youville on Saturday. Reyer ended the week going 1-for-2 with a run in the game 2 win over D'Youville. 

McSweeney is named Rookie of the Week for the third time this season and earns her fourth award of the season. Brandemarte earns her seventh award of the season, Miller earns her second award this year and Reyer takes home her first award. Mercy has now earned 26 awards on the year.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action today when they host Molloy at 2:30 p.m.
