Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off 2-0 and 7-2 losses to Queens on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by seniors Madilyn Lula and Victoria Seppala who both had an RBI. Mercy is making their fifth straight ECC Championship appearance. The Mavericks look to win their first ECC Tournament Championship since 2017.
Leading the returners for the Mavericks is sophomore Averi Miller who hit .336 last season with 30 RBI, 24 runs, eight stolen bases and eight doubles last season. Also returning is sophomore Allison Murphy who hit .299 in 2024 with 11 RBI, seven doubles and two home runs. Murphy had a team-high 31 runs and set a single-season school record with 25 stolen bases. Sophomore Dylan Reyer is back after hitting .308 with 11 RBI, 19 stolen bases and 21 runs scored.
Senior Victoria Seppala is back after being named First Team All-ECC in 2023. She hit .328 with 15 RBI and 28 runs scored in 2023. Sophomore Julianna Coluccio also returns after hitting .300 last season before suffering a season-ending injury. She had nine RBI and nine runs scored in 60 at bats last season. Graduate student Mia Harris is back after hitting .286 a year ago before suffering a season-ending injury. Seniors Madilyn Lula and Kimberlee Childs, junior Elizabeth Stark and sophomore Onnika DeBruhl return after combining for seven RBI and 14 runs scored in 2024.
Leading the returners on the pitching staff is junior Mackayla Secoda who went 6-7 last season with a team-best 3.57 ERA in 94.0 innings with 45 strikeouts. Junior Marina Provencio also returns after pitching 25.1 innings last season with a 1-3 record and 10 strikeouts.
Lorenzo also brings in a strong recruiting class highlighted by Division I Stonehill College transfer senior Skylar Brandemarte. The senior won 21 games in three years at Stonehill with a 4.06 ERA in 431.1 innings with 230 strikeouts. Also joining the Mavericks is freshman Talia Salanto who was named All-State and All-SCC First Team at Jonathan Law High School. Freshman Keira Jantz joins the Mavericks from Islip High School and was named All-County twice. Freshman Alexis Lemus joins Mercy from South Hills High School in California where she hit .412 during her senior year. Freshman Lauren McSweeney was named All-Division, All-County three times and League Pitcher of the Year three times at Islip High School. Freshman Jessica Fox joins Mercy from Morris Knolls High School where she was named Second Team All-Conference and freshman Carly Gaffney holds the school record for strikeouts and hits at Palmerton Area High School. Freshman Mikaela Mammola joins the Mavericks from Pawling High School and was named All-Section and All-League.
Mercy has been led at the plate by freshman Jessica Fox who is hitting .252 with 11 runs to go with 14 RBI. Sophomore Averi Miller is hitting .263 with 18 RBI and 35 hits to go with 21 runs. Senior Madilyn Lula is hitting .286 with 13 RBI and two home runs and senior Victoria Seppala has 20 RBI and a home run. Sophomore Allison Murphy is hitting a team-high .338 with a team-high 25 RBI and a team-high 29 runs scored and 12 stolen bases and freshman Keira Jantz has 11 RBI. Graduate student Mia Harris is hitting .240 with 15 RBI and sophomore Dylan Reyer is hitting .314 with seven RBI. Senior Skylar Brandemarte leads the pitching staff with a 12-7 record, a 1.53 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 137.2 innings pitched. Brandemarte recorded her 300th career strikeout against D'Youville on April 19th. Freshman Lauren McSweeney is 6-2 in the circle with a 4.42 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 50.2 innings and junior Mackayla Secoda is 4-6 with a 4.18 ERA in 60.1 innings with 41 strikeouts. Secoda recorded her 100th career strikeout against Molloy on April 21st.
Murphy was named Player of the Week on Monday and Brandemarte was tabbed Pitcher of the Week. Reyer and Seppala were named to the Honor Roll. McSweeney was named ECC Rookie of the Week last week and Brandemarte, Miller and Reyer were named to the Honor Roll. Brandemarte and Murphy were named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 14th. Brandemarte and Secoda were named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 7th. Brandemarte and Murphy were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 31st. McSweeney was named ECC Co-Rookie of the Week on March 24th and Harris, Murphy and Secoda were tabbed to the Honor Roll. Brandemarte, Miller and McSweeney were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 17th. McSweeney was named ECC Rookie of the Week on March 10th and graduate student Mia Harris, Lula, Brandemarte and freshman Mikaela Mammola were named to the Honor Roll. Scouting the Lions
Molloy is coming off a 7-6 win over STAC on Sunday in game two. The Lions were picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 32-24 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. Molloy has finished runner-up in each of the last three ECC Championships and are looking for their first ECC Championship since 2016. The Lions dropped all four meetings to Mercy in the regular season for the first time. Molloy are led by Natalie Moussa who is hitting a team-high .366 with a team-high 37 RBI and eight home runs. Stevie Dabbadie has 30 RBI and a team-high 17 doubles with a .327 average and Cheralyn Dusharme has 28 RBI, four home runs and 10 doubles. Dabbadie is 12-16 in the circle with a 4.34 ERA in 161.1 innings with 75 strikeouts and Moussa is 7-13 with a 4.93 ERA in 146.1 innings with 79 strikeouts.
Scouting the Spartans
STAC is coming off a 7-6 loss to Molloy on Sunday in game two. The Spartans were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 34-24 last season, winning the ECC Championship and qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. STAC has won each of the last two ECC Tournament Championships and finished runner-up in 2021. The Spartans are led by ECC Preseason Player of the Year Eliana Raposo who is hitting a team-high .408 with a team-high 12 home runs to go with 42 RBI. Sofia Marella has a team-high 47 RBI with 10 home runs and Trinadey Santiago has eight home runs and 28 RBI. Elyse Marcano is hitting .381 with 21 RBI and a team-high 26 stolen bases. ECC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Sarah Clancy is 15-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 147.2 innings with 100 strikeouts and Madison Puppolo is 13-6 with a 2.99 ERA in 128.2 innings with 66 strikeouts.
Scouting the Saints
D'Youville is coming off a 10-8 game two win over Staten Island on Sunday. The Saints were picked fifth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 9-33 last season. D'Youville is making their first appearance in the ECC Championship. The Saints are led by Annie Jorgenson who is hitting .364 with a team-high 27 RBI and one home run. Summer Clark is hitting .373 with a 44 hits and 16 RBI and Sophia Arno is hitting .333 with 20 RBI. Laura Beck is hitting .348 with 18 RBI and Gianna Adamo has 23 RBI. Sarah Parzych has a team-best 3.19 ERA with a 11-6 record and 87 strikeouts in 94.1 innings. Kendal Lehnen is 4-6 with a 5.40 ERA in 58.1 innings with 34 strikeouts and Clark is 3-4 with a 4.86 ERA in 63.1 innings with 39 strikeouts.
