Gonzalez Records an RBI as Baseball Hosts Adelphi

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2025) – Despite an RBI from senior Joseph Gonzalez (Monroe, N.Y./Rockland CC), the Mercy University baseball team dropped a 10-1 decision to Adelphi University on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (27-22) have lost two games in a row, while the Panthers (20-23) snap a two-game losing streak.

Mercy was led by Gonzalez who went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomores Peyton Jemison (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) and Joey Bodin (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) went 1-for-3 and seniors Gabe Sanders (Dunedin, Fla./Central Alabama CC) and Frankie Asaro (East Williston, N.Y./Wheatley) went 1-for-4. Sophomore Nevin Scaperotti (Stormville, N.Y./Carmel) allowed one earned run in 5.0 innings to take the loss.

Adelphi was led by Jack Tate who went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI. Zach Rovner pitched a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win.

The Panther scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.

Mercy scored their lone run in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1. Bodin singled to lead off the inning and scored after a Gonzalez RBI single to center field.

Adelphi recorded two runs in the fifth, four runs in the seventh, two runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth to take a 10-1 lead. Mercy could not score in the bottom of the ninth, giving the Panthers the 10-1 win.

Mercy had five hits and two errors and Adelphi had nine hits and no errors.

Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they play at New Haven at 3 p.m.
