KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 17, 2025) – The Mercy University men's basketball team has earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award and student-athletes Taj Chiles (Harlem, N.Y./University of Bridgeport), Max Mitchell (Westport, Conn./Roberts Wesleyan University) and Thomas Mandell (Southern Pines, N.C./Penn State-Berks) have been tabbed to the NABC Honors Court, as announced by the organization earlier today.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior, and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Over 2,400 student-athletes earned a spot on the NABC Honors Court and nearly 400 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2024-25. The Mavericks posted a 3.34 GPA throughout the 2024-25 academic year.
Chiles receives Honors Court recognition for the second straight year. The senior had a 3.43 GPA and started all 25 games. The guard averaged 7.2 points per game and an ECC-best 5.9 assists per game.
Mitchell takes home Honors Court honors for the second straight year. The senior had a 3.30 GPA and played in 15 games. Mitchell averaged 4.7 points per game and scored in double figures three times.
Mandell is tabbed to the Honors Court for the first time. The junior had a 3.31 GPA and played in 12 games. Mandell had a season-high six points against Daemen on February 9th.
