COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Baseball junior Nevin Scaperotti (Stormville, N.Y./Carmel) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week, sophomore Geneo Savoca (Albany, N.Y./University at Albany) has been tabbed Rookie of the Week and seniors Zach Ashline (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie Central) and Kolongi Goins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./FDR) have earned Honor Roll recognition for Week Seven.
Scaperotti pitched 8.0 shutout innings with just two hits allowed and nine strikeouts to earn the win in game one against D'Youville on Friday.
Savoca hit .375 (6-for-16) with a team-high seven runs to go with two RBI, two stolen bases and one triple as Mercy went 3-2 on the week. The sophomore also pitched 3.0 innings on the mound in two appearances with a 3.00 ERA and one strikeout. Savoca opened the week going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI in the game one win at D'Youville on Friday. The sophomore then went 1-for-2 with a run in game two. Savoca went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in the win at D'Youville on Saturday and scored three runs in the win at D'Youville on Sunday. Savoca also pitched 2.0 scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout in the win on Sunday.
Ashline hit .364 (8-for-22) with a team-high seven RBI to go with a home run, four runs, one double, and two triples as Mercy went 3-2 on the week. The senior opened the week going 1-for-3 with two RBI against Felician on Tuesday. The outfielder then went 1-for-5 with a run in the game one win at D'Youville on Friday. Ashline then went 1-for-5 with an RBI in the win at D'Youville on Saturday. The senior ended the week hitting for the cycle, going 5-for-6 with four RBI, three runs, a double, a triple and a home run in the win at D'Youville on Sunday.
Goins hit .471 (8-for-17) with five runs, three doubles, four RBI and two stolen bases as Mercy went 3-2 on the week. The senior opened the week going 1-for-3 with two runs against Felician on Tuesday. The outfielder then went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in the game one win at D'Youville on Friday. Goins went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two doubles and one run in the win at D'Youville on Saturday. The senior ended the week going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in the win at D'Youville on Sunday.
The award is the fifth earned by Scaperotti this season, the second for Savoca, the third for Goins and the first for Ashline. Mercy has now earned 19 awards on the year.
