COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Baseball sophomore Tate Van Alstyne (Chatham, N.Y./Southern New Hampshire University) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Rookie of the Week and seniors John Nisco (Tarrytown, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) and David Bernard Jr. (Schenectady, N.Y./Herkimer CC) and junior Dylan Koch (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Pace University) have been tabbed to the Honor Roll for Week 10.
Van Alstyne pitched 3.0 shutout innings of relief without allowing a hit in game two at STAC on Sunday.
Nisco hit .500 (10-for-20) with a team-high seven runs to go with four RBI, two doubles and one stolen base as Mercy went 2-2 on the week. The senior opened the week going 5-for-11 with two runs and a double in the split against STAC on Friday. Nisco ended the week going 5-for-9 with five runs, four RBI and a double in the split at STAC on Sunday.
Bernard Jr. hit .400 (6-for-15) with a team-high six RBI to go with three runs and a home run as Mercy went 2-2 on the week. The senior went 4-for-7 with four RBI, a home run and two runs in the split against STAC on Friday. Bernard Jr. ended the week going 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in the Mavericks' game-one win over STAC on Sunday.
Koch hit a team-high .615 (8-for-13) with four runs, three RBI, three stolen bases and a .667 on base percentage as Mercy went 2-2 on the week. The junior opened the week going 4-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base in game one against STAC on Friday. Koch ended the week going 4-for-8 with four runs abd two stolen bases in Mercy's split at STAC on Sunday.
The award is the first for Van Alstyne this season, the third for Nisco, the first for Bernard Jr. and the second for Koch. Mercy has now earned 32 awards on the year.
Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday when they host Staten Island at 3 p.m.
