Game Preview: Softball Hosts Staten Island on Friday and Holy Family on Sunday for Senior Day

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Mercy University Softball Team hosts ECC foe College of Staten Island on Friday, April 10th at 2:30 & 4:30 p.m. before hosting Holy Family University for Senior Day on Sunday, April 12th 12 & 2 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy enters the 2026 season picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 23-22 overall and 12-8 in ECC play last season, qualifying for the ECC Championship for the fifth straight season. Mercy earned the No. 2 seed in the ECC Championship last season, earning a win over Molloy before falling to St. Thomas Aquinas and D'Youville. The Mavericks recorded their most wins since 2019 last season and won their first ECC Championship game since 2021. Mercy looks to win their first ECC Championship and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017.

Leading the returners for the Mavericks is junior Allison Murphy who was named Second Team All-ECC last season after hitting a team-high .353 with 32 RBI, 32 runs, 53 hits and 15 doubles. Junior Dylan Reyer also returns after being named Second Team All-ECC a year ago. Reyer hit .312 with 29 hits, 13 runs, three triples and seven RBI. Junior Averi Miller returns after hitting .261 with 18 RBI, 23 runs and 11 doubles. Returning in the circle is senior Mackayla Secoda who went 4-6 with a 4.09 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 65.0 innings. Sophomore Lauren McSweeney is back after going 6-2 with a 4.67 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 51.0 innings.

Also returning is sophomore Jessica Fox who started 42 games last season and hit .261 with 14 RBI and 31 hits. Sophomore Keira Jantz is back after hitting .245 in 40 starts with 11 RBI and 25 hits and sophomore Mikaela Mammola returns after hitting .324 in 20 games with six stolen bases. Junior Onnika DeBruhl is back after playing in 15 games with three stolen bases and sophomore Talia Salanto hit .232 last year with 10 RBI, and 19 hits. Senior Elizabeth Stark started 15 games last season and is back after recording two hits and sophomore Alexis Lemus returns after playing in 15 games with five hits last season. Junior Julianna Coluccio also returns after hitting .300 in 2024 with nine RBI and six stolen bases.

Returning in the circle is senior Marina Provencio who appeared in five games with 9.2 innings pitched and four strikeouts last season. Sophomore Carly Gaffney started five games last year and returns after pitching 16.2 innings in 2025.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo will also look to freshmen Emma Jackson, Madelyn Perrone, Juliana Abbene, Mya Marelli, Kady Olsen, Makayla Rady, Emma Medina and Peighton McKenna to contribute immediately. Sophomore Kayla Zimmerman joins the Mavericks from American International College where she played in 13 games as a freshman.

Mercy is coming off 6-5 and 11-10 losses at Caldwell on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by juniors Averi Miller and Allison Murphy who both had three RBI on the day. Mercy has been led by junior Julianna Coluccio who is hitting .349 with a team-high 18 RBI and two home runs. Junior Averi Miller is hitting a team-high .397 with 15 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Miller recorded her 100th career hit against Molloy on April 2nd. Freshman Emma Jackson is hitting .281 with seven RBI and three doubles. Junior Allison Murphy has a team-high 21 RBI and 23 runs with a .349 average. She recorded her 100th career hit against Saint Anselm on March 16th. Junior Dylan Reyer is hitting .254 with nine RBI and 17 runs. Freshman Madelyn Perrone is hitting .328 with seven RBI and eight runs and sophomore Mikaela Mammola is hitting .275 with seven RBI and 12 runs. The pitching staff is led by freshman Juliana Abbene who is 4-2 with a 2.92 ERA in 24.0 innings with 18 strikeouts. Sophomore Lauren McSweeney is 4-4 with a 3.08 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 50.0 innings and senior Mackayla Secoda is 4-2 with a 3.97 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 49.1 innings.

McSweeney was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on April 6th and Murphy, Miller, Stark and Perrone were named to the Honor Roll. Secoda was named ECC Pitcher of the Week on March 30th, and Coluccio, Reyer, McSweeney and Perrone were named to the Honor Roll. Mammola and Secoda were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 23rd. Abbene was named ECC Rookie of the Week on March 16th and Jackson was tabbed to the Honor Roll. Mercy has won five straight meetings against Staten Island and nine of the last 10. The Mavericks are hosting Holy Family for a doubleheader for the first time since 2012.

Scouting the Dolphins

Staten Island is coming off 4-0 and 1-0 losses to D'Youville on Saturday. The Dolphins were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 19-21 last season. Staten Island has been led by Abbie Morris who is batting a team-high .418 with eight RBI and 23 hits. Milene Mendoza is hitting .400 with three RBI and Aliveah Warner is hitting .393 with a team-high 11 RBI. Bridget Motley is hitting .265 with 10 RBI and Jianna Lopez has a team-high 13 runs. Marena Grenier is 6-5 with a 3.36 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 73.0 innings and ECC Preseason Co-Pitcher of the Year Kennedie Ruth is 2-5 with a 6.63 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 63.1 innings.

Scouting the Tigers

Holy Family is coming off 10-4 and 6-4 losses to Lock Haven on Wednesday. The Tigers will host Dominican on Saturday before playing at Mercy on Sunday. Holy Family was picked fourth in the CACC Preseason Poll after going 19-22 last season, qualifying for the CACC Tournament. The Tigers are led by Rylee Hobel who is hitting a team-high .373 with 12 RBI and 18 runs. Kylee Jones has a team-high 20 RBI and three home runs and Molly Moore is 5-5 with a 3.12 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 60.2 innings. Kinsley Hall is 3-6 with a 4.06 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 50.0 innings.
