DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – For the 11th year, Mercy University Athletics will recap the year by counting down the Top-10 most memorable moments of the 2025-26 season, with all 10 sports represented.
Mercy University Athletics will release a Top-10 moment, as chosen by the athletics staff, with a recap every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the next three weeks culminating with the top moment from the 2025-26 athletic year being unveiled on Monday, August 3rd.
No. 10 – Men's Basketball earns ECC Academic Team of Excellence and Kohen Rowbatham is named Third Team All-ECC and All-Met Honorable Mention
Coming in at No. 10 in our 2025-26 Top-10 Moments is men's basketball who earned the ECC Academic Team of Excellence and sophomore Kohen Rowbatham was named Third Team All-ECC and All-Met Honorable Mention after transferring from Division I University of New Orleans.
The Mavericks entered the 2025-26 season picked ninth in the ECC Preseason Poll under first-year Head Coach Charles Marquardt after going 7-18 in 2024-25. Mercy began their 2025-26 season on November 14th against Holy Family at Jefferson University. Rowbatham and fellow newcomer junior Jordan Trahan combined for 52 points as the Mavericks dropped a 96-85 decision. Mercy ended the season-opening road trip with a loss to host Jefferson on November 15th. Following the opening two games of the season, Rowbatham was named to the ECC Honor Roll for the first time.
Mercy returned home for their home opener against Felician on November 19th. Rowbatham and Trahan both scored in double figures again as the Mavericks fell to the Golden Falcons. The Mavericks ended the week with a setback at Chestnut Hill on November 22nd.
Marquardt and the Mavericks stepped out of regular season play on November 26th and played an exhibition at Division I Bryant. Rowbatham scored a game-high 22 points as Mercy was only outscored by one point in the second half. The Mavericks resumed regular season play on November 30th when they played at RV East Stroudsburg. Rowbatham and Trahan combined for 56 points as Mercy dropped a hard-fought 98-92 decision. Rowbatham scored a game-high and then career-high 29 points on 11-of-24 shooting and Trahan added 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting as the Mavericks held a 50-43 lead at halftime. After the strong week of play, Rowbatham and Trahan were both named to the ECC Honor Roll.
The Mavericks began ECC play on December 3rd at Staten Island with a 90-79 loss. Senior TJ Holloway scored a game-high and career-high 33 points. Mercy bounced back on December 6th with a 91-86 win over District of Columbia for their first win of the season. The win was also Marquardt's first win as head coach at Mercy. The Mavericks defeated the Firebirds for the third straight time and opened the game with a 34-12 lead before holding on for the win in the second half. Rowbatham had 29 points and eight rebounds in the win and Holloway netted 17 points. Following the win, Holloway and Rowbatham were named to the ECC Honor Roll and Holloway was named MBWA Division II-III Player of the Week Honorable Mention.
The Mavericks resumed action on December 9th when they dropped a decision to RV Adelphi. Mercy then fell to No. 3 Daemen on December 12th. The Mavericks got back in the win column when they earned a 103-98 come-from-behind double-overtime win over D'Youville on December 14th. Rowbatham, Trahan and Holloway combined for 74 points as Mercy improved to 2-2 in ECC play and defeated the Saints at home for the first time since 2021. D'Youville held a game-high 12-point lead, 41-29, early in the second half. The Saints held a 71-69 lead with 45 seconds left in regulation before a Trahan layup tied the game at 71-71 with 21 seconds left, sending the game into overtime. The Mavericks trailed 83-80 before a junior Derek Long three-pointer with three seconds left in the first overtime tied the game at 83-83, sending the game into second overtime. Junior Daniel Boateng and Holloway combined for crucial free throws down the stretch with Holloway sealing the win by converting four in the final seconds, giving Mercy the 103-98 win. Holloway and Trahan both had a team-high 25 points and Rowbatham added 24 points and seven rebounds. Boateng added 12 points. After the win, Holloway and Trahan were named to the ECC Honor Roll and Holloway was named MBWA Player of the Week Honorable Mention.
Marquardt and the Mavericks played at Goldey-Beacom on December 18th before playing at Franklin Pierce on December 21st to conclude the 2025 portion of their schedule. Rowbatham scored a game-high 30 points against the Ravens and Holloway and Long both added 15 points. Rowbatham was named to the ECC Honor Roll on December 22nd and MBWA Player of the Week Honorable Mention on December 23rd.
Mercy began the New Year with a hard-fought 79-76 loss to Southern Connecticut State at the Judge Athletic Center on January 2nd. Holloway led the Mavericks with a game-high 31 points and Rowbatham netted 27 points. Holloway, Rowbatham and sophomore Joshua Naklen were named to the ECC Honor Roll on January 5th.
The Mavericks resumed ECC play on January 11th when they fell at Roberts Wesleyan. Rowbatham had a game-high 22 points and Holloway added 15 points. Rowbatham earned ECC Honor Roll recognition again on January 12th. Trahan scored a game-high 28 points on January 14th as Mercy dropped a close 63-61 decision at District of Columbia. The Mavericks ended the week with a 103-98 overtime loss to Staten Island on January 17th. Rowbatham scored a game-high and career-high 32 points on 15-of-23 shooting and Holloway added 23 points. The Mavericks shot a season-high 60.9 percent from the floor. The 60.9 percent shooting was their highest percentage shot since they shot 63.9 percent against Salem International on November 25, 2014. Rowbatham and Trahan were named to the ECC Honor Roll again on January 19th.
Mercy dropped a 69-61 decision at home to Queens on January 21st. Rowbatham had a game-high 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting and Trahan added 12 points. The Mavericks finished off the week with a loss at Molloy on January 24th. Rowbatham scored a team-high 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Rowbatham was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on January 26th and MBWA Player of the Week Honorable Mention on January 27th.
The Mavericks fell to St. Thomas Aquinas on January 31st with Holloway scoring a game-high 21 points. Holloway and Trahan were named to the ECC Honor Roll on February 2nd. Mercy hosted Roberts Wesleyan on February 8th, dropping a 69-57 decision with Trahan scoring a game-high 20 points. Junior Ashton Pratt and Holloway both added 14 points. Trahan and Holloway received ECC Honor Roll accolades on February 9th.
Marquardt and the Mavericks headed to Western New York where they dropped matchups to No. 4 Daemen and D'Youville. After the pair of games, Trahan and Rowbatham were named to the ECC Honor Roll. Mercy dropped an 82-69 decision at Queens on February 18th before falling 84-73 to Molloy on February 22nd. Rowbatham had 20 points against Molloy and Holloway finished with 19 points. Holloway and Rowbatham were named to the ECC Honor Roll on February 23rd.
In their second to last game of the season, the Mavericks faced Caldwell on February 25th. Mercy had not defeated the Cougars since 2003 and were on a 14-game losing streak. The Mavericks jumped out to a 23-14 lead following multiple three-pointers from Rowbatham. Trahan recorded several layups and freshman Tyrell Miller contributed key rebounds. Holloway gave Mercy a 41-32 lead at halftime following a late jumper. The Mavericks held a 59-48 lead with 11:27 left before Caldwell went on an 11-2 run to cut Mercy's lead to two, 61-59, with 6:31 remaining. Sophomore James Connolly drained a three to put Mercy up, 66-61, with 5:48 left and Connolly later went 2-of-2 from the line and scored a basket to put the Mavericks up, 73-65, with 2:37 on the clock. Holloway and Rowbatham drained free throws in the final minute to give Mercy the 82-71 win. The win snapped a 14-game losing streak and gave Mercy their first win over Caldwell since 2003. Rowbatham had a game-high 30 points with five three-pointers and Trahan and Holloway combined for 32 points. Miller recorded 11 rebounds and four blocks and Connolly added seven points and seven rebounds.
Mercy ended their 2025-26 season with a 95-80 Senior Day loss to St. Thomas Aquinas on February 28th. In a ceremony prior to the game, the Mavericks honored Holloway and Thomas Mandell. Holloway scored 20 points in his final game as a Maverick and Rowbatham added a game-high 22 points. Pratt recorded a season-high 18 points and Trahan collected a game-high 10 rebounds with nine points. Miller was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on March 2nd and Holloway and Rowbatham were named to the Honor Roll.
The Mavericks saw their season end with a 3-23 record overall and 2-14 mark in ECC play. On March 3rd, Rowbatham was named Third Team All-ECC. The sophomore and Division I transfer from University of New Orleans was named to the ECC Honor Roll 11 times after averaging a team-high 20.5 points and 2.7 assists per game in 24 games. The guard ranked second in the ECC in points per game and scored in double figures in all but one game. Rowbatham had 14 games with 20 or more points, highlighted by a career-high 32 points against Staten Island. The guard finished with 492 points during the 2025-26 season, the sixth most in a single season in program history. The sophomore also averaged an ECC-high 35.9 minutes per game. Rowbatham was also named MBWA Division II-III Player of the Week Honorable Mention twice and was named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Men's Division II All-Met Honorable Mention. Rowbatham became the first men's basketball student-athlete since Kerwin Price in 2021 to earn All-Met honors.
The Mavericks also excelled in the classroom, earning the ECC Academic Team of Excellence for men's basketball for the first time in program history. The team posted a 3.25 cumulative GPA and Connolly, Long, Mandell, Jeffrey Mulhern, Christopher Nana and Rowbatham were named to the ECC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Connolly was also named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Marquardt brings in a strong recruiting class and the Mavericks look to take the next step as a program during the 2026-27 season.
