Barrera continued her strong play during the month of January, averaging 13.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game on 47.6 percent shooting as Mercy went a perfect 8-0 during the month. The two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week during the month opened the month with 18 points and 15 rebounds in the Mavericks’ win over Bloomfield on January 5th. The one-time ECC Honor Roll recipient during the month then had 10 points in the win over Dominican on January 8th. Barrera later had 13 points and eight rebounds in Mercy’s win at UDC on January 14th. The forward added 17 points, six rebounds and six blocks in the Mavericks’ win over Queens on January 21st. Barrera had a month-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks in the win at Molloy on January 24th. Barrera recorded her 100th career block during the win, becoming the fifth Maverick in program history to reach the mark. The senior ended the month with nine points and five rebounds in Mercy’s win over STAC on January 31st, extending the Mavericks’ win streak to 10 games. Barrera recorded her 1,000th career point in the win, becoming the 22nd Maverick in program history to reach the mark.
