Dr. Darryl Bullock, who received the Dr. Ann E. Grow Friend of Athletics Award in 2009, has a long and rich history with Mercy College, especially in its athletics department. Mercy Blue & White runs deep in his blood.
Dr. Bullock has held many positions while at Mercy: registrar, director of planning & institutional research, assistant to the athletics director, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor, assistant athletics director & business manager, and adjunct faculty member. He also served as the head men’s and women’s track and field coach for seven seasons, and most notably, he was the head men’s and women’s cross country coach for 33 years.
Starting the cross country program at Mercy in 1976, his squads competed in more than 20 NCAA Division II Regional Championships. Coach Bullock had two runners on the men’s side capture New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Individual Championships. Under his tutelage, he developed a number of All-Conference honorees in both the NYCAC and Collegiate Track Conference.
Dr. Bullock is a 1973 graduate of Mercy College, where he majored in history and minored in psychology. He went on to earn a master’s degree from CCNY and a Ph.D from the CUNY Graduate Center in political science, specializing in United States foreign policy and human rights.
