Game Preview: Men's Basketball Visits Queens on Wednesday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2020) – The Mercy College men's basketball team resumes action on Wednesday, January 15th when they play at Queens College in an ECC matchup.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is currently on a three-game losing streak and is coming off a 76-74 overtime loss to UDC on Saturday. The Mavericks are looking to win at Queens for the first time since January 30, 2016. Mercy is currently third in the ECC in free throw attempts (304) and fourth in makes (206). The Mavericks are led by redshirt junior Bryan Griffin who is a one-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week and leads the country with 13.2 rebounds per game. The forward also ranks No. 7 nationally in double-doubles (8), No. 5 in total rebounds (171) and No. 1 in defensive rebounds per game (9.69). Sophomore Dondre Barnes is third on the team with 7.3 points per game and leads the team with 2.2 assists per game. Scouting the Knights

Queens snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday with an 87-84 overtime win at Roberts Wesleyan. The Knights shoot an ECC-best 74.0 percent from the foul line and hold opponents to 44.2 percent shooting from the floor (No. 3). Queens is led by junior Elijah Bovell who is a one-time ECC Player of the Week and is third in the ECC with 20.1 points per game on 49.5 percent shooting. The guard also averages 5.7 rebounds per game and 1.1 steals per game. Sophomore David Grady III is second on the team with 10.2 points per game and leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game. Junior Keenan Gorski pours in 9.3 points per game and senior Shomari Redd is fourth on the team with 9.1 points per game and leads the team with 3.3 assists per game.
