Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy enters Saturday's game on a two-game losing streak but is 2-2 in their last four games. The Mavericks are coming off a 75-51 loss to ECC foe New York Tech on Wednesday and have split the season series with the Firebirds each of the last two seasons. Mercy has attempted the second most free throws (290) in the ECC and has made the third most (197). The Mavericks are led by redshirt junior Bryan Griffin who leads the nation in rebounds per game (13.2) and is No. 4 nationally with 158 rebounds. The forward also leads the country in defensive rebounds per game (9.58) and is No. 11 with seven double-doubles. Griffin also leads the team and is fourth in the ECC with 17.0 points per game and leads the ECC with 1.8 blocks per game. Junior Nakeem Hamilton is second on the team with 13.2 points per game and has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games. Sophomore Dondre Barnes is third on the team with 7.4 points per game and leads the team with 2.4 assists per game.
Scouting the Firebirds
UDC has dropped two of their last three games but is coming off a 91-72 win over Wilmington on Monday. The Firebirds lone ECC win came on December 14th when they defeated New York Tech, 50-43. UDC is currently second in the ECC in three-pointers made (118) and attempted (362), converting at a 32.6 percent clip. The Firebirds also lead the ECC in assists per game (17.1) and blocks per game (3.7). Sophomore Juanye Colon leads the UDC attack with 14.4 points per game and 2.6 three-pointers per game. The guard also averages a team-high 2.3 steals per game and dishes out 2.5 assists per game. Senior Zachary Olukanni is second on the team with 13.5 points per game and leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game. Senior Aaren Smith and junior Cheyenne Nettleton round out four Firebirds scoring in double figures with 12.5 and 12.1 points per game, respectively.
