Each Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the fall semester we'll be bringing you "Mav Spotlight" profiles of current Mercy student-athletes as we learn more about our athletes outside of their sport. Today we feature baseball graduate student Anthony Murphy.

Quick Bio

Murphy, a Peekskill, New York native, is in his graduate year at Mercy, where he majors in Business Management. The graduate student has appeared in 147 games in four years and has 167 hits, 116 RBI, 16 home runs and 86 runs scored. He was named ECC Rookie of the Year in 2017 and was named Second Team All-ECC. In 2018, Murphy was named Second Team All-Region and First Team All-ECC. In 2020, he hit .273 with 10 RBI and an ECC-best four home runs.

Getting to Know Anthony

Q: Who or what inspired you to play sports?

A: What inspired me to play baseball was my father who played for the White Sox minor league team, and also when I saw how talented he was at such a young age.

Q: What is your favorite sport memory at Mercy College?

A: My favorite sport memory at Mercy College was probably my first walk off win vs Concordia College.

Q: What is your biggest accomplishment on or off the field?

A: My biggest accomplishment has to be being awarded Rookie of the Year my first season.

Q: Do you have any pregame superstitions?

A: My pregame superstition is getting to the field a little early and getting in a couple of sprints in along with music to get focused.

Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

A: One meal I could eat for the rest of my life would have to be Hamburgers.

Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

A: If I could have any superpower it would be to teleport to get to places faster.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: Favorite movie is The Day after Tomorrow or Toy Story. Favorite TV Show would be Friends or Family Guy.

Q: What is your major and what do you want to do with it?

A: My major is Business Management and I would like to be able to run/own a business.

Q: What do you hope to do when your playing days are over?

A: When my playing days are over, I hope to actually keep playing after college, if that doesn't work to manage.

Q: What is your favorite social media app?

A: My favorite social media app is Twitter and it shouldn't be free.

Q: What is your favorite hobby?

A: My favorite hobby is playing baseball or video games.

Q: Who is your favorite athlete?

A: My favorite athlete would be Mike Trout.

Q: Who is your favorite professional sports team?

A: My favorite sports teams are the Yankees, Packers, and Spurs.

Q: Who are your favorite musicians?

A: My favorite musicians are Drake, Meek Mill, and Future.

Q: Who is the teammate you are closest with and what do enjoy doing together?

A: I would say I am very close with Paulie Cozzolino, and Jack Kelly. We enjoy watching and discussing all sports and discussing Yankees and Mets baseball.

Q: What is your favorite meal from the café?

A: Favorite meal from the café is probably the Boneless Wings.
