Mooradian Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Baseball Third Team

AUSTIN, Texas (June 10, 2020) – Mercy College baseball senior John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II baseball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Mooradian earned Third Team honors and was the lone selection from the East Region.

Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.

Mooradian becomes the fifth student-athlete to receive Academic All-America honors in school history. He is the first to receive the honor since Jesse Wood in 2014 when he was named to the Men's At-Large Third Team. Mooradian is the first baseball student-athlete to receive the accolade since Chris Walpole in 1990.

The native of Marlboro, New York earned All-District honors for the third straight year last month and currently holds a 3.75 GPA as a Nursing major. The senior appeared in 12 games this season and hit .333 with 16 hits, 12 runs, five doubles and eight RBI. He led the team in doubles and runs and set a new school record for career triples in game one at Barton on February 16th. Mooradian also recorded his 100th career run in game two at Barton on February 16th. Prior to the start of the season, the shortstop was named NCBWA Preseason Third Team All-American and NCBWA Preseason First Team All-Region.

Mooradian currently has 187 career hits, 108 runs, 96 RBI, 79 stolen bases, 29 doubles, 14 triples and three home runs. He currently ranks in the top 10 in program history in hits, runs, RBI, stolen bases, doubles and triples.

Last season, Mooradian was named NCBWA All-American Honorable Mention, ABCA Second Team All-Region, NCBWA First Team All-Region, D2CCA First Team All-Region, First Team All-ECC and ECC Scholar-Athlete. He hit .397 with 75 hits, 50 RBI, 38 runs, nine doubles and seven triples. The senior set a single-season school record in hits and RBI and led the ECC in RBI and hits.

As a sophomore, Mooradian ranked second on the team with a .314 average and led the team in hits with 60 and was tied for the team lead with 39 runs scored. He also led the team and ranked in the top five in ECC in stolen bases with 34.

During his freshman campaign, Mooradian started 39 games and had nine RBI, 19 runs, 36 hits and 20 stolen bases.
