Game Preview: No. 16 Women's Lacrosse Hosts Molloy on Tuesday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2021) – The No. 16 Mercy College women's lacrosse team hosts Molloy College on Tuesday, March 30th at 4 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks
  • Mercy is coming off an 11-10 overtime loss to Roberts Wesleyan on March 20th. The Mavericks were led by junior Juliana Keenan who had a team-high three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and junior Micayla Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 4-1 during the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. Mercy went 15-5 during their last full season in 2019 and won their first ECC Championship, making the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • Mercy is currently ranked No. 16 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.
  • Mercy looks to start 3-1 for the second straight year. 
  • Mercy has had five straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last four seasons the tournament was held.
  • The Mavericks are 5-6 all-time against the Lions but have won the last five meetings. Mercy earned a 19-9 win in the teams' last meeting on May 2, 2019 in the ECC Tournament Semifinals.
  • Graduate student Mary Mackie has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and junior Taylor Bishop has been named to the ECC Honor Roll once. Mackie has a team-high 11 points on eight goals with three assists.
  • Bishop currently has a team-high nine goals on the year. Junior Kerri Cummings is second on the team with 10 points on three goals and a team-high seven assists.
  • Junior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is fourth on the team with seven points by way of three goals and four assists. Senior Briana Corace has added five goals and one assist. Sophomore Sydney Corley was named ECC Rookie of the Week on March 15th after scoring a career-high two goals in the win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
  • Brady leads the defense for the Mavericks and was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week last week. The junior has 10 ground balls and a team-high 11 caused turnovers. Junior Jules Keenan has recorded three goals, three assists, five ground balls, six caused turnovers and a team-high 21 draw controls. Senior Kellie Znaniecki has also played well recording a team-high 12 ground balls with 14 draw controls.
  • Senior Emma Jacobsen has made the start in goal in all three games this season and is 2-0 with a .429 save percentage and nine saves.
  • Mercy currently leads Division II in assists per game (11) and free position percentage (.750). They also rank No. 3 nationally in points per game (27).
 Scouting the Lions
  • Molloy last played on March 18th and dropped a 9-8 decision to Georgian Court.
  • The Lions were picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 2-3 last year.
  • During their last full season in 2019, the Lions went 12-7 and lost in the ECC Tournament Semifinals to Mercy.
  • Molloy is 1-0 on the road this year, having defeated Caldwell 26-5 on March 11th.
  • The Lions last beat Mercy on April 25, 2015.
  • Molloy scored a school-record 26 goals in the win over Caldwell.
  • Leading the Lions offensively this season is one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week junior Abbie Bellport who has a team-high nine points on four goals and five assists. She also has 10 draw controls and caused turnovers. Sophomore Haille Ross is second on the team with seven points on two goals and five assists.
  • Junior Kara Rosenberg has a team-high six goals with three ground balls. Sophomore Amanda Weber has four goals and two assists with a team-high 12 draw controls.
  • Senior Kaitlyn Meyer has a team-high-tying four caused turnovers and freshman Mary-Kate Sweeney is 1-2 in goal with 21 saves and a .438 save percentage. 
Next Game
Mercy resumes action on Friday, April 2nd when they play at Jefferson at 3 p.m.
