Game Preview: No. 18 Women's Lacrosse Faces Molloy and D'Youville This Weekend

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 22, 2021) – The No. 18 Mercy College women's lacrosse team plays at Molloy on Saturday, April 24th at 11 a.m. before hosting D'Youville for Senior Day on Sunday, April 25th at 11 a.m.

Scouting the Mavericks
  • Mercy is coming off a 19-3 victory over Bridgeport on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Mary Mackie who had a career-high seven points on four goals and three assists.
  • Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and junior Micayla Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 4-1 during the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. Mercy went 15-5 during their last full season in 2019 and won their first ECC Championship, making the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • Mercy looks to start 8-1 for the first time since 2018.
  • Mercy is currently ranked No. 18 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.
  • Mercy has started 7-1 for the first time since 2018.  
  • Mercy has had five straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last four seasons the tournament was held.
  • The Mavericks are 6-6 all-time against Molloy, earning a 10-1 win earlier this season. Mercy is meeting D'Youville for the first time in program history.
  • Graduate student Mary Mackie has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times and junior Taylor Bishop has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. Bishop has a team-high-tying 26 points on a team-high 24 goals to go along with two assists.
  • Mackie currently has 18 goals and eight assists on the year and is five points shy of 100 for her career. Junior Erin Chalich was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week last week and is third on the team with 23 points on eight goals and a team-high 15 assists. Junior Kerri Cummings has 15 points on six goals and nine assists.
  • Junior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 5th and is fifth on the team with 20 points on 11 goals and nine assists. Senior Briana Corace has added 17 goals and six assists. She recorded her 100th career point in the Mavericks win over Georgian Court on April 8th. Sophomore Sydney Corley was named ECC Rookie of the Week on March 15th after scoring a career-high two goals in the win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
  • Brady leads the defense for the Mavericks and has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice. The junior has a tean-high 23 ground balls and a team-high 24 caused turnovers. Junior Jules Keenan was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and has recorded eight goals, four assists, 16 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers and 38 draw controls. Senior Kellie Znaniecki has also played well recording 22 ground balls with a team-high 41 draw controls.
  • Senior Emma Jacobsen has made the start in goal in all eight games this season and is 7-0 with a .521 save percentage and 25 saves. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 5th.
Scouting the Lions
  • Molloy last played on Sunday, April 18th and earned a 15-3 win at D'Youville.
  • The Lions were picked third in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 2-3 during the 2020 shortened season.
  • During their last full season in 2019, the Lions went 12-7 and lost in the ECC Tournament Semifinals to Mercy. 
  • Molloy last beat Mercy on April 25, 2015 in Rockville Centre.
  • The Lions are 1-3 at home this year with the lone win coming against Bridgeport on April 3rd.
  • Molloy is led by one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week Abbie Bellport who has a team-high-tying 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists. Amanda Weber has a team-high-tying 19 points on a team-high 16 goals with three assists and a team-high 30 draw controls. She also has 10 caused turnovers and 12 ground balls.
  • Kaitlyn Meyer has a team-high 11 caused turnovers with 15 ground balls and has scored two goals with three assists. Mary-Kate Sweeney is 3-5 in goal with 61 saves and a .445 save percentage.
Scouting the Saints
  • D'Youville will face STAC on Saturday before taking on Mercy on Sunday. The Saints last played on Sunday against Molloy, falling 15-3.
  • The Saints are making the transition from Division III to Division II. D'Youville was picked last in the ECC Preseason Poll and is 2-7 this season with wins over Fredonia and Buffalo State.
  • Last season, the Saints went 2-1 during the shortened season and went 7-10 during their last full season in 2019.
  • D'Youville is led by Riley Riedel who has a team-high 19 points on a team-high-tying 14 goals with five assists. Riedel also has 12 caused turnovers, 43 draw controls and 21 ground balls. Bethany Wolcott also has 14 goals and has nine caused turnovers and 21 ground balls.
  • Isabella Lucania has 10 goals and one assist and Amanda Waliszewski has a team-high 16 caused turnovers with 22 ground balls. Jordan Pachla has a team-high 26 ground balls and Hannah Wilson is 2-7 in goal with 58 saves and a .296 save percentage.

Mercy resumes action on Wednesday, April 28th when they play at STAC at 3:30 p.m.
