Scouting the Mavericks
- Mercy is coming off a 15-3 Senior Day win over D'Youville on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Mary Mackie who recorded her 100th career point.
- Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and junior Micayla Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 4-1 during the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. Mercy went 15-5 during their last full season in 2019 and won their first ECC Championship, making the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance.
- Mercy looks to start 10-1 for the first time since 2018 and look to start 11-1 for the first time since 2017. Mercy is currently ranked No. 19 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll. Mercy is currently one of six teams under consideration from the East Region for a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Three teams will make the tournament from the East Region.
- Mercy has had five straight winning seasons and has secured their fifth straight ECC Tournament appearance.
- With a win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday, the Mavericks would secure their second straight ECC Regular Season Championship and the first outright Regular Season Championship in program history.
- The Mavericks earned an 18-6 win over STAC on March 10th at Mercy Field. Mercy fell 11-10 in overtime to Roberts Wesleyan on March 20th at Mercy Field.
- Graduate student Mary Mackie has been named to the ECC Honor Roll four times and junior Taylor Bishop has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice. Bishop has a team-high-tying 32 points on a team-high 28 goals to go along with four assists.
- Mackie currently has 22 goals and 10 assists on the year and became the 13th Maverick to record 100 points for a career on Sunday. Junior Erin Chalich was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week on April 12th and is fourth on the team with 28 points on nine goals and a team-high 19 assists. Junior Kerri Cummings has 24 points on nine goals and 15 assists. Junior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 5th and is sixth on the team with 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists. Senior Briana Corace has added 21 goals and eight assists. She recorded her 100th career point in the Mavericks win over Georgian Court on April 8th.
- Brady leads the defense for the Mavericks and has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week three times. The junior has a team-high 34 ground balls and a team-high 33 caused turnovers. Junior Jules Keenan was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week last week and has recorded 10 goals, five assists, 17 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 42 draw controls. Senior Kellie Znaniecki has also played well recording 25 ground balls with a team-high 45 draw controls. Senior Emma Jacobsen has made the start in goal in all 10 games this season and is 9-0 with a .528 save percentage and 28 saves. She was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 5th.
Scouting the Spartans
- STAC last played on Saturday and earned a 20-7 win over D'Youville.
- The Spartans were picked fourth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 5-2 during the 2020 shortened season.
- During their last full season in 2019, the Spartans went 8-9.
- STAC last beat Mercy on March 12, 2016.
- The Spartans are 2-1 at home this year with wins over D'Youville and Holy Family.
- STAC is led by seniors Danielle Cajou and Jennifer Farrell who both have a team-high 29 points on 19 goals and 10 assists. Cajou also has 23 draw controls and 15 ground balls. Junior Leanna Iobbi has a team-high 25 goals on the year and a team-high 31 draw controls. Also contributing is two-time ECC Rookie of the Week Micaela Ross who has 12 goals and one assist on the season.
- Defensively, the Spartans are led by senior Casey Hannon who has a team-high eight caused turnovers with 17 ground balls.
- Senior Laura Delorenzo is 4-2 in goal with 55 saves and a .447 save percentage.
Scouting the Redhawks
- Roberts Wesleyan enters Saturday's game on a 13-game winning streak dating back to last year. The Redhawks last played on Saturday and defeated Bridgeport 23-2. On April 22nd, Roberts Wesleyan defeated No. 8 Grand Valley State, 12-9, at home.
- The Redhawks were picked second in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 4-1 during the 2020 shortened season. Roberts Wesleyan went 11-6 during their last full season in 2019 and lost in the First Round of the ECC Tournament.
- With a win over Mercy, the Redhawks would secure their first ECC Championship in program history and earn the top seed in next week's ECC Tournament.
- The Redhawks are currently one of six teams under consideration for an NCAA Tournament spot in the East Region. Roberts Wesleyan has been selected as the host site for the East Region.
- Roberts Wesleyan is led by two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week senior Lindsey Brinkel who has a team-high 71 points on 26 goals and a team-high 45 assists. Three-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week junior Madison Bell is second on the team with 69 points on a team-high 38 goals with 31 assists. ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year senior Emily Tomei also has a team-high 38 goals on the year and has 49 points overall.
- Graduate student Tiffany Melendez has a team-high 21 caused turnovers and two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week senior Madilynn Walsh has 20 caused turnovers. One-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week graduate student Jessica Giancursio has a team-high 36 ground balls and 61 draw controls. Junior Natalie Arieno is 11-0 in goal with 73 saves and a .459 save percentage.
