WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (May 3, 2021) – Mercy College baseball graduate student Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Player of the Week for Week Eight. Graduate student Miguel Ortiz Sanchez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
Murphy hit .412 with a team-high 12 RBI and three home runs. The graduate student also had four runs and went 1-for-4 with a home run at STAC on Wednesday. Murphy then went 1-for-6 with three RBI and a run against Lincoln on Friday. The first baseman then went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBI in the win over Lincoln on May 1st. Murphy ended the week going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI against STAC on Sunday.
Ortiz Sanchez hit a team-best .526 (10-for-19) with six RBI, eight runs and two doubles. The graduate student went 1-for-5 against STAC on Wednesday. The shortstop then went 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBI in the sweep of Lincoln on Friday. Ortiz Sanchez then went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the win over Lincoln on May 1st. The shortstop ended the week going 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs against STAC on Sunday.
The award is the third earned by Murphy this season and the second for Ortiz Sanchez. Mercy has now earned 16 awards on the year.
Mercy resumes action on Thursday when they play at Dominican at 3 p.m.
