DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Aug. 5, 2021) – The Mercy College men's soccer team is receiving votes nationally according to the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll, as announced by the organization yesterday.
Mercy enters the 2021 season looking to defend their ECC Championship from 2019. The Mavericks did not play during the 2020-21 academic year due to COVID-19 but will look to make the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year under Head Coach Pedro Velazquez. In 2019, Mercy went 14-4-3 and won their first ECC Tournament Championship since 2004. The Mavericks finished with their most wins in a season since 1986 and ended the season receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Leading the returners for the Mavericks is junior Matthias Kuhn who was named Third Team All-ECC in 2019. Also returning is senior Archie Jones who appeared in 20 games in 2019 and had four goals and five assists. Mercy will have 16 student-athletes making their debuts as Mavericks this season.
Mercy opens their 2021 season on Thursday, September 2nd when they play at American International at 7 p.m.
