Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 14-7 win over Lock Haven in their season opener on Thursday. The Mavericks were led by senior Juliana Keenan who had a career-high seven points on six goals and one assist. Senior Micayla Brady had a game-high six caused turnovers and senior Madeline Garvalosa made five saves to earn the win.
· On Monday, Brady was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Keenan was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 12-2 during the 2021 season, winning the ECC Regular Season Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 14 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 13 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 31-8 in their last 39 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Mavericks are also 17-2 on the road during that stretch.
· Mercy has had seven straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· The Mavericks are 0-2 all-time against Le Moyne. The two teams last met on March 7, 2020 with Le Moyne earning a 14-9 win.
· Mercy is looking to start 2-0 for the seventh straight season.
· The Mavericks are looking to defeat their highest ranked opponent in program history.
· Head Coach Dawn Sachs is just six wins shy of 100 for her career. She currently holds a 94-51 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Keenan leads the Mavericks with seven points on six goals and one assist. She also has two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
· Senior Taylor Bishop had three goals and one assist in the season-opening win over Lock Haven and freshman Leah Hansen had two goals and one assist in her collegiate debut.
· The defense is led by Brady who was named Second Team All-American by the IWLCA last season and was named Preseason First Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She had a game-high six caused turnovers in the win over Lock Haven and became the fourth Maverick in program history to record 100 career caused turnovers. Seniors Alexandra Bigilin and Hunter Savino each had three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
· Garvalosa made five saves in the first half of action against Lock Haven and has a .625 save percentage and 6.00 goals-against average.
Scouting the Dolphins
· Le Moyne was picked first in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 13-1 last season, just missing out on the NCAA Tournament.
· The Dolphins have captured at least a share of the NE10 regular season title in six of their 10 full seasons in the NE10.
· Le Moyne returns 23 letterwinners, including nine of 12 starters, while adding a graduate transfer and seven freshmen.
· The Dolphins won the National Championship in 2018.
· Leading the returners for Le Moyne is Preseason First Team All-American graduate student Erin McMullen who had a team-high 53 points on 41 goals and 12 assists last season. The graduate student also added a team-high 91 draw controls with 27 ground balls. Senior Jessica Meneilly also returns after ranking second on the team in points with 43 by way of 39 goals and four assists.
· Preseason Third Team All-American junior Savannah Fish returns on defense after posting a team-high 23 caused turnovers in 2021.
· USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year junior Paige Crandall is back in goal after going 13-1 last season with 97 saves, a .574 save percentage and 6.13 goals-against average.
