Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 12-6 win over No. 21 Assumption on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by senior Juliana Keenan who had a game-high four goals. Freshman Lindsey Shimborske had a game-high six ground balls with three caused turnovers and senior Madeline Garvalosa made 10 saves.
· On Monday, Shimborske was named ECC Rookie of the Week and Keenan and senior Micayla Brady were named to the Honor Roll.
· Brady has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and has been named IWLCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week once. Keenan has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times and Shimborske has been named to the Honor Roll once.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 12-2 during the 2021 season, winning the ECC Regular Season Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 12 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 15 in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 33-10 in their last 43 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Mavericks are 15-6 at home during that stretch.
· Mercy has had seven straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· The Mavericks are 6-1 all-time against Georgian Court, having won the last six meetings. The teams last met on April 16, 2021 with Mercy earning an 18-9 win.
· Head Coach Dawn Sachs is just four wins shy of 100 for her career. She currently holds a 96-53 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Keenan leads the Mavericks with 22 points on a team-high 19 goals with three assists. She also has five ground balls and four caused turnovers. The senior has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times.
· Senior Taylor Bishop is second on the team with 15 points on 11 goals and four assists. Senior Kerri Cummings is fifth on the team with eight points by way of three goals and a team-high five assists. Graduate student Briana Corace has nine goals and recorded her 100th career goal in Mercy's win over Assumption on Sunday. She becomes the sixth Maverick in program history to record 100 goals. Senior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is tied for third on the team with 10 points on seven goals and three assists.
· The defense is led by Brady who was named Second Team All-American by the IWLCA last season and was named Preseason First Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She recorded her 100th career caused turnover in the win over Lock Haven on February 24th and has a team-high 13 ground balls, 21 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. Brady ranks sixth nationally with 3.4 caused turnovers per game. Senior Hunter Savino has seven ground balls and six caused turnovers and senior Alexandra Bigilin has eight ground balls and six caused turnovers. Shimborske ranks second on the team with 10 caused turnovers, 11 ground balls and 15 draw controls.
· Senior Madeline Garvalosa is 3-2 in goal with 38 saves, a .507 save percentage and 8.42 goals-against average.
Scouting the Lions
· Georgian Court is coming off an 11-10 loss to No. 22 New Haven on Saturday, extending their losing streak to six games.
· The Lions were picked first in the CACC Preseason Poll after going 12-2 in 2021, winning their fourth straight CACC Championship.
· Georgian Court has won 42 straight games in a row against CACC opponents.
· The Lions are led by Shaine Sauter who has a team-high 23 points on a team-high 18 goals with five assists. Heather Devaney is second on the team with 19 points on 10 goals and a team-high nine assists and Sabrina Chandler has 13 goals and one assist. Chandler and Sauter both have a team-high 31 draw controls on the year.
· Kelsey Naclerio has 14 ground balls and a team-high nine caused turnovers.
· Alexis Hahn is 1-6 in goal with a CACC-best 70 saves. She also has a team-high 18 ground balls with a .407 save percentage and 14.57 goals-against average.
