Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off an 18-6 win over Molloy on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Kelly Rosenfeld who had a game-high five goals and by senior Madeline Garvalosa who made a game-high 12 saves.
· On Monday, senior Jules Keenan was named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· On March 28th, freshman Leah Hansen was named to the ECC Honor Roll for the first time.
· On March 21st, senior Madeline Garvalosa was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and senior Taylor Bishop was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 14th, freshman Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Rookie of the Week and Keenan and senior Micayla Brady were named to the Honor Roll.
· Brady has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and has been named IWLCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week once. Keenan has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times and Shimborske has been named to the Honor Roll once.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 12-2 during the 2021 season, winning the ECC Regular Season Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 13 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 38-12 in their last 50 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had seven straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· The Mavericks are 5-3 all-time against the Rams, having won the last five meetings.
· Head Coach Dawn Sachs recorded her 100th career win against D'Youville on Sunday. She currently holds a 101-55 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Keenan leads the Mavericks with 51 points on a team-high 39 goals with 12 assists. She also has 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The senior has been named to the ECC Honor Roll four times.
· Senior Taylor Bishop is second on the team with 35 points on 26 goals and nine assists. Senior Kerri Cummings is fourth on the team with 25 points by way of eight goals and a team-high 17 assists. Graduate student Briana Corace has 29 goals and three assists and recorded her 100th career goal in Mercy's win over Assumption on March 13th. She became the sixth Maverick in program history to record 100 goals. Senior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is fifth on the team with 23 points on 15 goals and eight assists and Hansen has 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists.
· The defense is led by Brady who was named Second Team All-American by the IWLCA last season and was named Preseason First Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She recorded her 100th career caused turnover in the win over Lock Haven on February 24th and has 23 ground balls, 32 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers. She now has a school-record 122 career caused turnovers, surpassing the previous school record of 116 set by Talia Stagnitta in 2020. Senior Hunter Savino has 19 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers and senior Alexandra Bigilin has 22 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. Shimborske is second on the team with 23 caused turnovers and leads the team with 24 ground balls and 40 draw controls.
· Senior Madeline Garvalosa is 8-4 in goal with 92 saves, a .523 save percentage and 8.48 goals-against average.
Scouting the Rams
· Jefferson is coming off a 22-2 win over Felician on Wednesday.
· The Rams were picked second in the CACC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 11-3 last season. Jefferson advanced to the CACC Tournament Championship last season where they fell to Georgian Court.
· Jefferson is led by Erin Avanzato who has a team-high 50 points on 33 goals and 17 assists. She also has 25 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers. Ellie Lefton has 49 points on a team-high 40 assists with nine goals.
· Carina Raymond has a team-high 40 goals with 42 points and Erin Campbell has a team-high 33 ground balls, 67 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers.
· Melanie Goldstein is 5-0 in goal with a .475 save percentage, 19 saves and 3.85 goals-against average. Kelsey Kaplowitz is 3-3 in goal with 40 saves, a .396 save percentage and 9.33 goals-against average.
