Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 21-12 loss to No. 7 West Chester on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Briana Corace who had a team-high four goals.
· Last Monday, freshman Leah Hansen was named to the ECC Honor Roll for the first time.
· On March 21st, senior Madeline Garvalosa was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and senior Taylor Bishop was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 14th, freshman Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Rookie of the Week and senior Juliana Keenan and senior Micayla Brady were named to the Honor Roll.
· Brady has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and has been named IWLCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week once. Keenan has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times and Shimborske has been named to the Honor Roll once.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 12-2 during the 2021 season, winning the ECC Regular Season Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 13 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Mercy is 36-12 in their last 48 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season. The Mavericks are 18-7 at home during that stretch.
· Mercy has had seven straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in each of the last six seasons the tournament was held.
· The Mavericks are 1-0 all-time against D'Youville.
· Head Coach Dawn Sachs is just one win shy of 100 for her career. She currently holds a 99-55 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Keenan leads the Mavericks with 43 points on a team-high 33 goals with 10 assists. She also has seven ground balls and six caused turnovers. The senior has been named to the ECC Honor Roll three times.
· Senior Taylor Bishop is second on the team with 31 points on 23 goals and eight assists. Senior Kerri Cummings is fourth on the team with 20 points by way of eight goals and a team-high 12 assists. Graduate student Briana Corace has 22 goals and three assists and recorded her 100th career goal in Mercy's win over Assumption on March 13th. She became the sixth Maverick in program history to record 100 goals. Senior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is tied for fourth on the team with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists and Hansen has 17 points on nine goals and eight assists.
· The defense is led by Brady who was named Second Team All-American by the IWLCA last season and was named Preseason First Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She recorded her 100th career caused turnover in the win over Lock Haven on February 24th and has a team-high 23 ground balls, 32 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers. She now has a school-record 122 career caused turnovers, surpassing the previous school record of 116 set by Talia Stagnitta in 2020. Senior Hunter Savino has 16 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers and senior Alexandra Bigilin has 18 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Shimborske ranks second on the team with 23 caused turnovers and is tied for the team lead with 23 ground balls and 32 draw controls.
· Senior Madeline Garvalosa is 6-4 in goal with 71 saves, a .490 save percentage and 9.26 goals-against average.
Scouting the Saints
· D'Youville is coming off an 18-4 win over Medaille on Wednesday. The Saints will play at STAC on Saturday before playing at Mercy on Sunday.
· The Saints were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 2-9 last season.
· D'Youville is led by graduate student Marissa Malvaso who has a team-high 53 points on 35 goals and 18 assists. She also has a team-high 40 draw controls with 21 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Graduate student Paige Cocina has 29 points on 21 goals and eight assists.
· Freshman Sydney Gordon is third on the team with 26 points on 21 goals and five assists and sophomore Bethany Wolcott has 21 goals and four assists.
· Sophomore Danielle Thompson has 12 goals and 10 assists and junior Amanda Waliszewski has a team-high 29 ground balls. Sophomore Jordan Pachla has a team-high 17 caused turnovers and freshman Brinn Stworzydlak is 6-5 in goal with 84 saves, a .449 save percentage and 9.28 goals-against average.
