Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 21-9 win over STAC on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by senior Juliana Keenan who had a game-high five goals with one assist. Senior Madeline Garvalosa made a game-high 15 saves.
· Last week, senior Taylor Bishop was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, Garvalosa was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week for the third time and freshman Lindsey Shimborske was named Rookie of the Week for the third time.
· On April 18th, Garvalosa was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Shimborske was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week. Bishop was named to the ECC Honor Roll for the second time.
· On April 11th, Keenan was named to the ECC Honor Roll.
· On March 28th, freshman Leah Hansen was named to the ECC Honor Roll for the first time.
· On March 21st, Garvalosa was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Bishop was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· On March 14th, Shimborske was named ECC Rookie of the Week and Keenan and senior Micayla Brady were named to the Honor Roll.
· Brady has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week twice and has been named IWLCA Division II Defensive Player of the Week once. Keenan has been named to the ECC Honor Roll four times and Shimborske has been named to the Honor Roll once.
· Mercy was picked to finish 1st in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was selected Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The Mavericks went 12-2 during the 2021 season, winning the ECC Regular Season Championship and earning their second straight NCAA Tournament berth.
· Mercy is currently ranked No. 15 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· The Mavericks are ranked fifth in the second NCAA Regional Rankings announced Wednesday. The top four teams from the East Region qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
· Mercy clinched their third straight ECC regular season championship with their win over STAC on Saturday.
· The Mavericks are looking to advance to the Final for the fifth straight time.
· Mercy is 42-12 in their last 54 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have earned their sixth straight ECC Tournament appearance this year.
· The Mavericks are 2-0 all-time against D'Youville and won this year's meeting, 14-4, in Dobbs Ferry on April 10th.
· Head Coach Dawn Sachs recorded her 100th career win against D'Youville on April 10th. She currently holds a 105-55 record in 10 seasons as head coach.
· Keenan leads the Mavericks with 65 points on a team-high 52 goals with 13 assists. She also has 14 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. The senior has been named to the ECC Honor Roll four times and recorded her 100th career point against STAC on Saturday.
· Senior Taylor Bishop is second on the team with 47 points on 37 goals and 10 assists. She recorded her 100th career point in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on April 23rd. Senior Kerri Cummings is fifth on the team with 36 points by way of 13 goals and a team-high 23 assists. Graduate student Briana Corace has 39 goals and four assists and recorded her 100th career goal in Mercy's win over Assumption on March 13th. She became the sixth Maverick in program history to record 100 goals. Senior Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is fourth on the team with 37 points on 23 goals and 14 assists and Hansen has 30 points on 15 goals and 15 assists.
· The defense is led by Brady who was named Second Team All-American by the IWLCA last season and was named Preseason First Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine. She recorded her 100th career caused turnover in the win over Lock Haven on February 24th and has 24 ground balls, 33 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers. She now has a school-record 122 career caused turnovers, surpassing the previous school record of 116 set by Talia Stagnitta in 2020. Senior Hunter Savino has 20 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers and senior Alexandra Bigilin has 29 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers. Shimborske has a team-high 59 draw controls, 33 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers.
· Garvalosa is 12-4 in goal with 133 saves, a .536 save percentage and 8.63 goals-against average. She recorded her 200th career save at Roberts Wesleyan on April 23rd.
Scouting the Saints
· D'Youville is coming off a 19-8 win over Bridgeport on Saturday that clinched their first-ever berth into the ECC Championship.
· The Saints were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Coaches' Poll after going 2-9 last season.
· D'Youville is led by graduate student Marissa Malvaso who has a team-high 73 points on 50 goals and 23 assists. She also has a team-high 57 draw controls with 33 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Graduate student Paige Cocina has 37 points on 28 goals and nine assists.
· Freshman Sydney Gordon is fourth on the team with 31 points on 24 goals and seven assists and sophomore Bethany Wolcott has 27 goals and five assists.
· Sophomore Danielle Thompson has 14 goals and 15 assists and junior Amanda Waliszewski has a team-high-tying 38 ground balls. Sophomore Jordan Pachla has a team-high 19 caused turnovers and a team-high-tying 38 ground balls.
· One-time ECC Rookie of the Week freshman Brinn Stworzydlak is 8-7 in goal with 129 saves, a .453 save percentage and 10.33 goals-against average.
