WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Aug. 29, 2022) – Mercy College men's soccer senior Benjamin Van Buren (Anderson, S.C./USC Upstate) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Mateo Bacigalupo (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Cardenal Newman) was tabbed to the Honor Roll for Week One.

Van Buren scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute of Mercy's season-opening win over Saint Rose on Thursday. The senior also helped lead a Maverick backline that surrendered just one goal in two games to open the season.

Bacigalupo netted the game-winning goal in the 12th minute of Mercy's 1-0 home-opening win over New Haven on Sunday.

The awards are the first earned by both this season and the awards are the first for the Mavericks this season.

Head Coach Pedro Velazquez and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, August 31st when they play at Adelphi at 7 p.m.
