WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Aug. 29, 2022) – Mercy College volleyball senior Larissa Schneid (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Iowa Western CC) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Volleyball Player of the Week, senior Selma Vulic (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) has been tabbed Defensive Player of the Week and senior Yarianne Gonzalez (Manati, P.R./Monroe College) was named Setter of the Week for Week One. Junior Anyelainy Vizcaino Araujo (Santo Domingo Oeste, D.R./Southwestern CC) received Honor Roll recognition.

Schneid had a team-high-tying 27 kills with 23 digs and four aces as Mercy started the season 2-0. The senior opened the week with a double-double by way of 14 kills and 16 digs in the win over Southern Connecticut State on Friday. The outside hitter ended the week with 13 kills and seven digs in the win over Assumption.

Vulic had a team-high 38 digs in two matches for the Mavericks. The senior opened the season with 15 digs in the win over Southern Connecticut State on Friday. The libero ended the week with a match-high 23 digs in the win over Assumption.

Gonzalez recorded a team-high 78 assists with 16 digs and four kills in two matches. The senior opened the season with a match-high 40 assists with seven digs in the win over Southern Connecticut State on Friday. The setter ended the week with a match-high 38 assists with nine digs and three kills in the win over Assumption.

Vizcaino Araujo began her Mercy career with a team-high-tying 27 kills with 21 digs and three aces in two matches. The junior began her Maverick career with 15 kills and 14 digs in the win over Southern Connecticut State on Friday. The outside hitter capped off the week with 12 kills and seven digs in the win over Assumption.

The awards are the first for all four this season and the Mavericks have now received four awards on the year.

Head Coach Ana Todorovic and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, September 1st when they play at Caldwell at 5 p.m.
