Six Mavericks Named to College Sports Communicators Men's Soccer Academic All-District Team

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 22, 2023) – Mercy University men's soccer seniors Daniel Rodriguez (Caracas, Venezuela/Erskine College) and Carlos Fernandes (Lisbon, Portugal/Spring Hill College), graduate student Eduardo Costa (Sao Joao da Madeira, Portugal/Sacred Heart University), junior Eirik Elvestad (Oslo, Norway/Blindern VGS) and sophomores Johannes Hanken Tjostheim (Aalesund, Norway/Spring Hill College) and Mathias Schilbred-Eriksen (Bergen, Norway/Tertnes Videregaende Skole) have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division II Men's Soccer Academic All-District Team.

Rodriguez is named to the All-District team for the first time. The senior has a 3.96 GPA as a Data Analytics major. The midfielder was named Second Team All-ECC after starting 18 games with one goal, five assists and seven points. The senior ranked second on the team in assists and was fifth in points.

Fernandes is tabbed All-District for the first time. The senior has a 3.66 GPA as a Business Administration – Management major. The midfielder was named First Team All-ECC after starting 17 games with four goals, six assists and 14 points. Fernandes led the team in assists and was second in goals and points.

Costa takes home All-District honors for the first time. The graduate student has a 4.0 GPA as a Business Administration – Sport Management major and earned the ECC Elite 20 Award this season. The midfielder was named Third Team All-ECC and appeared in 18 games making 16 starts with 1,086 minutes played.

Elvestad receives All-District honors for the second straight year. The junior has a 3.96 GPA as a Business Administration major. The goalkeeper was named ECC Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-ECC after being named ECC Defensive Player of the Week three times. Elvestad went 9-4-5 in goal with 63 saves, a .750 save percentage and 1.18 goals-against average.

Hanken Tjostheim is named All-District for the first time. The sophomore has a 3.93 GPA as a Psychology major. The forward was named First Team All-ECC after being named ECC Offensive Player of the Week three times. Hanken Tjostheim had a team-high 13 goals and 30 points in 16 games with a team-high four game-winning goals.

Schilbred-Eriksen is tabbed All-District for the first time. The sophomore has a 3.96 GPA as a Finance and Data Analytics major. The defender was named Third Team All-ECC after starting 17 games with four assists and 1,293 minutes played.

The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
