Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 17-9 win at Franklin Pierce on Saturday in their season opener. Sophomore Leena Moussa had a game-high five points and sophomore Lindsey Shimborske had a game-high and career-high six caused turnovers.
· Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and graduate student Emma Rippon and Moussa were tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· Moussa had a game-high four goals in the win and added an assist. Graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk had three goals including her 100th career point in the win. Rippon had three goals and a game-high seven draw controls and graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk and sophomore Leah Hansen each had two goals. Freshmen Maeghan Callow and Andrea Mott scored in their collegiate debut and Lindsey Shimborske also scored and had four draw controls.
· Senior Erin Shimborske had a game-high three assists and team-high four ground balls with three caused turnovers in the win over Franklin Pierce. Graduate student Micayla Brady, junior Carly Diolosa and freshman Olivia LaMonica each had two caused turnovers. Junior Olivia Maute made three saves in the first half to earn the win.
· The Mavericks are looking to start 2-0 for the first time since 2021.
· Mercy is 0-3 all-time against Le Moyne but dropped last year's meeting by just one, 10-9.
· Mercy is ranked No. 11 nationally in both the IWLCA and Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine polls.
· The Mavericks look to win their home opener for the 13th straight season.
· Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and second ECC Tournament Championship last season.
· The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall.
· Mercy is 45-13 in their last 58 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in six straight years.
· The Mavericks were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· Brady was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Second Team All-American after being named Third Team All-American by the publication last season.
· Brady and Lindsey Shimborske were named Second Team All-Region last season by the IWLCA.
· Brady was named ECC Defender of the Year and Shimborske was tabbed Rookie of the Year last season. Leading the All-Conference returners for the Mavericks are Brady, Shimborske and junior Kelly Rosenfeld who were named First Team All-ECC. Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk, graduate student Alexandra Bigilin, Erin Shimborske and junior Christina Lopreato also return after being named Second Team All-ECC last season.
Scouting the Dolphins
· Le Moyne was picked second in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 15-6 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament.
· The Dolphins are looking to win their season opener for the 13th straight season.
· Le Moyne is 3-0 all-time against Mercy.
· The Dolphins are ranked No. 5 nationally in the IWLCA Poll and No. 4 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
· Le Moyne won the National Championship in 2018.
· The Dolphins return four of their top five scorers from a year ago. They also return their top three leaders in caused turnovers and their starting goalie from last year.
· Leading the returners for the Dolphins is graduate student Jessica Meneilly who was named IWLCA Third Team All-American last season after leading the team with 63 goals and 67 points. Senior Gemma Addonizio also returns after posting 62 points on 31 goals and 31 assists. Graduate student Adrianna Nojaim and junior Sarah Hutchings return after combining for 69 goals and 101 points last season.
· IWLCA First Team All-American Taylor Reich returns after ranking third on the team with 22 caused turnovers with a team-high 53 ground balls. Junior Lilly Locastro returns after leading the team with 27 caused turnovers.
· Returning in goal is senior Paige Crandall who went 15-6 last season with 134 saves, a .432 save percentage and 9.82 goals-against average.
