Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 12-8 loss to No. 5 Le Moyne on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Leena Moussa who had a team-high three goals and by sophomore Lindsey Shimborske who had a game-high-tying four ground balls and five caused turnovers.
· Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second straight week and Moussa was named to the Honor Roll for the second straight week. Graduate student Emma Rippon was tabbed to the Honor Roll last week.
· Moussa has a team-high seven goals on the year with three draw controls. Graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is tied for second on the team with four goals. She recorded her 100th career point in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 18th. Sophomore Leah Hansen also has four goals and Rippon has three goals and a team-high-tying seven draw controls. Graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk is second on the team with six points on three goals and three assists. Freshmen Maeghan Callow and Andrea Mott also have scored a goal and Lindsey Shimborske has two goals.
· Senior Erin Shimborske has a team-high four assists with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lindsey Shimborske has a team-high 11 caused turnovers with four ground balls and a team-high-tying seven draw controls. Graduate student Micayla Brady is second on the team with six caused turnovers and leads the team with five ground balls.
· Junior Olivia Maute is 1-1 in goal with 11 saves, a .407 save percentage and 10.67 goals-against average in 90 minutes of action.
· Mercy is 3-4 all-time against Assumption and won last year's meeting 12-6 in Worcester. The Mavericks are 0-3 all-time against the Greyhounds at home.
· Mercy is ranked No. 11 nationally in the IWLCA poll and No. 12 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll.
· Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and second ECC Tournament Championship last season.
· The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall.
· Mercy is 45-14 in their last 59 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in six straight years.
· The Mavericks were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· Brady was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Second Team All-American after being named Third Team All-American by the publication last season.
· Brady and Lindsey Shimborske were named Second Team All-Region last season by the IWLCA.
· Brady was named ECC Defender of the Year and Shimborske was tabbed Rookie of the Year last season. Leading the All-Conference returners for the Mavericks are Brady, Shimborske and junior Kelly Rosenfeld who were named First Team All-ECC. Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk, graduate student Alexandra Bigilin, Erin Shimborske and junior Christina Lopreato also return after being named Second Team All-ECC last season.
Scouting the Greyhounds
· Assumption is coming off a 15-2 win over Colorado at Colorado Springs on Saturday.
· The Greyhounds were picked fifth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 10-8 last season, qualifying for the NE10 Tournament.
· Assumption is ranked No. 16 nationally in the IWLCA Poll.
· The Greyhounds are led by junior Olivia Catanzarite who had a team-high three goals and seven draw controls in the win on Saturday. Junior Grace Chicko and senior Jenna Joseph both added a team-high five points on two goals and three assists.
· Junior Isabelle Edwards and sophomore Molly Weiand also scored two goals. Senior Isabella Jackson had a team-high two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
· Freshman Skylar Troyan played the first three quarters with one save to earn the win in goal.
