Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 13-11 win over No. 16 Assumption on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk who had a game-high four goals.
· Sophomore Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second straight week and Moussa was named to the Honor Roll for the second straight week. Graduate student Emma Rippon was tabbed to the Honor Roll last week.
· Moussa has a team-high 10 goals on the year with one assist and three draw controls. Graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is second on the team with eight goals. She recorded her 100th career point in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 18th. Sophomore Leah Hansen has five goals and Rippon has five goals and seven draw controls. Graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk is second on the team with 10 points on four goals and six assists. Freshmen Maeghan Callow has two goals and an assist and Andrea Mott also has scored a goal. Lindsey Shimborske has two goals and an assist.
· Senior Erin Shimborske is second on the team with five assists with a goal, eight ground balls and three caused turnovers. Lindsey Shimborske has a team-high 16 caused turnovers, nine ground balls and 11 draw controls. Graduate student Micayla Brady is second on the team with 10 caused turnovers and has seven ground balls.
· Junior Olivia Maute is 1-1 in goal with 15 saves, a .385 save percentage and 12.00 goals-against average in 120 minutes of action. Freshman Olivia LaMonica made five saves in the second half of Wednesday's win over Assumption to earn her first collegiate win.
· Mercy is 0-3 all-time against Adelphi with Saturday's meeting being the first held at Mercy Field.
· Mercy is ranked No. 11 nationally in the IWLCA poll and No. 12 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll.
· Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and second ECC Tournament Championship last season.
· The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall.
· Mercy is 46-14 in their last 60 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in six straight years.
· The Mavericks were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· Brady was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Second Team All-American after being named Third Team All-American by the publication last season.
· Brady and Lindsey Shimborske were named Second Team All-Region last season by the IWLCA.
· Brady was named ECC Defender of the Year and Shimborske was tabbed Rookie of the Year last season. Leading the All-Conference returners for the Mavericks are Brady, Shimborske and junior Kelly Rosenfeld who were named First Team All-ECC. Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk, graduate student Alexandra Bigilin, Erin Shimborske and junior Christina Lopreato also return after being named Second Team All-ECC last season.
Scouting the Panthers
· Adelphi is coming off a 15-10 loss to Florida Southern on February 24th. The Panthers opened their season with a 14-9 loss at Tampa on February 21st.
· The Panthers were picked first in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 18-3 last season, advancing to the National Semifinals.
· Adelphi has won a Division II record nine National Championships.
· The Panthers are ranked No 6 nationally in the IWLCA poll and No. 10 nationally in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll.
· Adelphi has been led by Alison Turner who has a team-high five points on four goals and one assist. Kerrin Heuser has four goals and Izzy Grant has three goals, one assist and a team-high 11 draw controls.
· Alexandra Leggio has two goals and an assist and Alexandra Beebe and Samantha Pugh both have a team-high five caused turnovers. Beebe also has a team-high six ground balls.
· Madison Marchetta is 0-2 in goal with nine saves, a 14.39 goals-against average and .281 save percentage.
