Scouting the Mavericks
· Mercy is coming off a 19-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Leah Hansen who had a game-high and career-high four goals.
· Hansen was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday.
· Sophomore Lindsey Shimborske and graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll last Monday.
· Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season on March 27th and junior Christina Lopreato was tabbed to the Honor Roll.
· Jaclyn Grzelaczyk was named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 20th.
· Shimborske was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on March 13th.
· Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on March 6th for the third straight week and graduate student Micayla Brady was tabbed to the Honor Roll. Sophomore Leena Moussa has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and graduate student Emma Rippon was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.
· Moussa has a team-high 32 goals with one assist on the year and four draw controls. Graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is second on the team with 23 goals. She recorded her 100th career point in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 18th. Sophomore Leah Hansen has 17 goals and Rippon has 20 goals, four assists and 30 draw controls. Jaclyn Grzelaczyk leads the team with 39 points on 17 goals and a team-high 22 assists. Freshman Maeghan Callow has five goals and an assist and freshman Andrea Mott has two goals and three assists. Lindsey Shimborske has two goals and three assists.
· Senior Erin Shimborske is second on the team with eight assists with 14 goals, 26 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. Lindsey Shimborske has a team-high 39 caused turnovers, 29 ground balls and 38 draw controls. She recorded her 100th career draw control against Roberts Wesleyan. Graduate student Micayla Brady is second on the team with 24 caused turnovers and has 26 ground balls.
· Junior Olivia Maute is 4-5 in goal with 59 saves, a .351 save percentage and 12.42 goals-against average in 526:32 minutes of action. Freshman Olivia LaMonica is 2-0 in goal with 13 saves, a .448 save percentage and 7.11 goals-against average in 135 minutes.
· The Mavericks are 1-2 all-time against New Haven with Mercy winning the last meeting 12-8 in 2019.
· Mercy is ranked No. 15 nationally in the IWLCA poll.
· Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and second ECC Tournament Championship last season.
· The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall.
· Mercy is 50-18 in their last 68 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.
· Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in six straight years.
· The Mavericks were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
· Brady was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Second Team All-American after being named Third Team All-American by the publication last season.
· Brady and Lindsey Shimborske were named Second Team All-Region last season by the IWLCA.
· Brady was named ECC Defender of the Year and Shimborske was tabbed Rookie of the Year last season. Leading the All-Conference returners for the Mavericks are Brady, Shimborske and junior Kelly Rosenfeld who were named First Team All-ECC. Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk, graduate student Alexandra Bigilin, Erin Shimborske and junior Christina Lopreato also return after being named Second Team All-ECC last season.
Scouting the Chargers
· New Haven is coming off a 23-8 win over American International on Saturday.
· The Chargers were picked fourth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 11-7 last season, qualifying for the NE10 Championship.
· New Haven is ranked No. 22 nationally in the latest IWLCA Poll.
· The Chargers are led by Raegan Bailey who has a team-high 38 points on a team-high 28 goals and 10 assists. She also has 30 draw controls, nine caused turnovers and 13 ground balls. Savannah Ernst is second on the team with 30 points on 26 goals and four assists.
· Gianna Caprioli has 18 points on 13 goals and five assists and has a team-high 60 draw controls, 16 caused turnovers and 22 ground balls.
· Justine Doyle has 10 caused turnovers and 14 ground balls and Gabby Buscemi has a team-high-tying 22 ground balls.
· Buscemi is 5-5 in goal with 90 saves, a .459 save percentage and 10.97 goals-against average.
