Game Preview: No. 19 Women's Lacrosse Plays at Georgian Court on Tuesday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2023) – The No. 19 Mercy College women's lacrosse team plays at Georgian Court University on Tuesday, April 18th at 12:30 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

·         Mercy is coming off an 18-0 win over UDC on Saturday. The Mavericks were led by freshman Andrea Mott and senior Sydney Corley who both had a game-high-tying three goals.

·         Mott was named to the ECC Honor Roll on Monday.

·         Sophomore Leah Hansen was named to the ECC Honor Roll last Monday.

·         Sophomore Lindsey Shimborske and graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on April 3rd.  

·         Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season on March 27th and junior Christina Lopreato was tabbed to the Honor Roll.

·         Jaclyn Grzelaczyk was named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 20th.

·         Shimborske was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on March 13th.

·         Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on March 6th for the third straight week and graduate student Micayla Brady was tabbed to the Honor Roll. Sophomore Leena Moussa has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and Rippon was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.

·         Moussa has a team-high 34 goals with two assists on the year and five draw controls. Graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is second on the team with 25 goals. She recorded her 100th career point in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 18th. Sophomore Leah Hansen has 20 goals and Rippon has 23 goals, four assists and 40 draw controls. Jaclyn Grzelaczyk leads the team with 47 points on 20 goals and a team-high 27 assists. Freshman Maeghan Callow has five goals and two assists and freshman Andrea Mott has six goals and seven assists. Lindsey Shimborske has two goals and three assists.

·         Senior Erin Shimborske is second on the team with nine assists with 15 goals, 28 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers. Lindsey Shimborske has a team-high 42 caused turnovers, 31 ground balls and 43 draw controls. She recorded her 100th career draw control against Roberts Wesleyan. Graduate student Micayla Brady is second on the team with 27 caused turnovers and has 27 ground balls.

·         Junior Olivia Maute is 5-6 in goal with 65 saves, a .349 save percentage and 12.07 goals-against average in 601:32 minutes of action. Freshman Olivia LaMonica is 2-0 in goal with 17 saves, a .447 save percentage and 7.00 goals-against average in 180 minutes.

·         The Mavericks are 7-1 all-time against Georgian Court with the lone loss coming in 2015.

·         Mercy is ranked No. 19 nationally in the IWLCA poll.

·         Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and second ECC Tournament Championship last season.

·         The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall.

·         Mercy is 51-19 in their last 70 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.

·         Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in six straight years.

·         The Mavericks were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

·         Brady was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Second Team All-American after being named Third Team All-American by the publication last season.

·         Brady and Lindsey Shimborske were named Second Team All-Region last season by the IWLCA.

·         Brady was named ECC Defender of the Year and Shimborske was tabbed Rookie of the Year last season. Leading the All-Conference returners for the Mavericks are Brady, Shimborske and junior Kelly Rosenfeld who were named First Team All-ECC. Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk, graduate student Alexandra Bigilin, Erin Shimborske and junior Christina Lopreato also return after being named Second Team All-ECC last season.

Scouting the Lions

·         Georgian Court is coming off a 21-6 win over Caldwell on Saturday.

·         The Lions were picked first in the CACC Preseason Poll after going 12-7 last season, winning their fifth straight CACC Championship.

·         Georgian Court is 4-0 at home this season.

·         The Lions are led by Alyssa Wahl who has a team-high 84 points on 49 goals and a team-high 35 assists. Isabel Raimondi has 61 points on 34 goals and 27 assists and Riley O'Connor has a team-high 55 goals with five assists and 42 draw controls.

·         Remi Reinhardt has 29 goals and six assists with a team-high 81 draw controls. Kelsey Naclerio has a team-high 32 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers.

·         Alexis Hahn is 8-6 in goal with 121 saves, a .455 save percentage and 11.71 goals-against average.

Mercy resumes action on Saturday, April 22nd when they play at D'Youville at 11 a.m.
