Game Preview: No. 20 Women's Lacrosse Hosts Daemen for Senior Day on Saturday

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2023) – The No. 20 Mercy College women's lacrosse team hosts ECC foe Daemen University for Senior Day on Saturday, April 29th at 12 p.m.

Scouting the Mavericks

·         Mercy is coming off a 17-7 win at Jefferson on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk who had a game-high seven points.  

·         Freshman Andrea Mott was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and sophomore Lindsey Shimborske and graduate student Emma Rippon were tabbed to the Honor Roll.

·         Mott was named to the ECC Honor Roll last Monday.

·         Sophomore Leah Hansen was named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 10th.

·         Lindsey Shimborske and graduate student Jaclyn Grzelaczyk were tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on April 3rd.  

·         Lindsey Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season on March 27th and junior Christina Lopreato was tabbed to the Honor Roll.

·         Jaclyn Grzelaczyk was named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 20th.

·         Shimborske was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll on March 13th.

·         Shimborske was named ECC Defensive Player of the Week on March 6th for the third straight week and graduate student Micayla Brady was tabbed to the Honor Roll. Sophomore Leena Moussa has been named to the ECC Honor Roll twice and Rippon was tabbed to the Honor Roll on February 20th.

·         Moussa has a team-high 44 goals with four assists on the year and five draw controls. Graduate student Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk is second on the team with 36 goals. She recorded her 100th career point in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 18th. Sophomore Leah Hansen has 31 goals and two assists and Rippon has 33 goals, six assists and 60 draw controls. Jaclyn Grzelaczyk leads the team with 57 points on 25 goals and a team-high 32 assists. Freshman Maeghan Callow has five goals and four assists and freshman Andrea Mott has 12 goals and 18 assists. Lindsey Shimborske has two goals and three assists.

·         Senior Erin Shimborske is third on the team with 10 assists with 15 goals, 30 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. Lindsey Shimborske has a team-high 46 caused turnovers, 40 ground balls and 64 draw controls. She recorded her 100th career draw control against Roberts Wesleyan. Graduate student Micayla Brady is second on the team with 29 caused turnovers and has 33 ground balls.

·         Junior Olivia Maute is 8-6 in goal with 76 saves, a .367 save percentage and 11.37 goals-against average in 691:32 minutes of action. Freshman Olivia LaMonica is 2-0 in goal with 27 saves, a .458 save percentage and 7.11 goals-against average in 270 minutes.

·         The Mavericks are facing Daemen for the first time.

·         Mercy is ranked No. 20 nationally in the IWLCA poll.

·         The Mavericks have secured their seventh straight ECC Tournament berth and with a win would secure the No. 1 seed in next week's ECC Championship.

·         Mercy won their third straight ECC Regular Season Championship and second ECC Tournament Championship last season.

·         The Mavericks qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall last season.

·         Mercy is 54-19 in their last 73 games dating back to the start of the 2019 season.

·         Mercy has had eight straight winning seasons and have made the ECC Tournament in seven straight years.

·         The Mavericks were picked first in the ECC Preseason Poll and Brady was tabbed Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

·         Brady was also named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Second Team All-American after being named Third Team All-American by the publication last season.

·         Brady and Lindsey Shimborske were named Second Team All-Region last season by the IWLCA.

·         Brady was named ECC Defender of the Year and Shimborske was tabbed Rookie of the Year last season. Leading the All-Conference returners for the Mavericks are Brady, Shimborske and junior Kelly Rosenfeld who were named First Team All-ECC. Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk, graduate student Alexandra Bigilin, Erin Shimborske and junior Christina Lopreato also return after being named Second Team All-ECC last season.

Scouting the Wildcats

·         Daemen is coming off a 14-1 loss to Roberts Wesleyan on April 18th.

·         The Wildcats were picked sixth in the ECC Preseason Poll.

·         The 2023 season is the inaugural season for women's lacrosse at Daemen.

·         Daemen is led by two-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week Casey Decatur who has a team-high 71 points on 34 goals and an ECC-best 37 assists. Three-time ECC Rookie of the Week Dana Bacher has 52 points on 43 goals and nine assists with 16 caused turnovers and Ella Bouley has 28 goals and six assists with 36 ground balls.

·         Camryn Day has been named ECC Rookie of the Week once and has 22 goals and eight assists with a team-high 98 draw controls and Avery Castner has 20 goals and seven assists.

·         Blair Pfohl has a team-high-tying 36 ground balls and Bacher and Bouley both lead the Wildcats with 16 caused turnovers. Pfohl is 7-8 in goal with 113 saves, a .384 save percentage and 12.07 goals-against average.

Next Game

Mercy resumes action on Thursday, May 4th when they play in the ECC Championship Semifinals.
