COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Volleyball senior Gabriela Bieniek (Rzeszow, Poland/Indian Hills CC) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for Week 10, junior Adriana Rivera Rodriguez (Humacao, Puerto Rico/American International College) has been tabbed Setter of the Week, and freshman Kamila Colon (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Colegio Catolico Notre Dame) has been named Rookie of the Week.
Bieniek had a team-high 42 kills and 3.50 kills per set with 24 digs, eight blocks, nine aces and five assists as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The senior opened the week with 13 kills, 10 digs, seven aces, four blocks and two assists in the 3-1 win over AIC on Tuesday. The outside hitter then had 15 kills, six digs, three blocks, and one ace at D'Youville on Saturday. Bieniek ended the week with a match-high-tying 14 kills to go with eight digs, one block, and one ace in Mercy's first-ever win at Daemen on Sunday.
Rivera Rodriguez had a team-high 92 assists and 7.67 assists per set with 17 digs, four blocks, two aces, and seven kills as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The junior opened the week with a match-high 36 assists to go with nine digs, three blocks, two aces, and three kills in Mercy's 3-1 win over AIC on Tuesday. The setter then had 26 assists, seven digs, and two kills at D'Youville on Saturday. Rivera Rodriguez ended the week with a match-high 30 assists to go with one dig, one block, and two kills in Mercy's first-ever win at Daemen on Sunday.
Colon had a team-high 35 digs and 2.92 digs per set with four aces and nine assists as Mercy went 2-1 on the week. The freshman opened the week with eight digs and two assists in Mercy's 3-1 win over AIC on Tuesday. The libero then had a career-high 15 digs to go with three aces and three assists at D'Youville on Saturday. Colon ended the week with a match-high 12 digs to go with one ace and four assists in Mercy's first-ever win at Daemen on Sunday.
Bieniek is named Player of the Week for the second time this season and has earned seven awards on the year. Rivera Rodriguez is named Setter of the Week for the fourth time this season and has earned 10 awards on the year. Colon is tabbed Rookie of the Week for the first time and has now earned two awards on the year. Mercy has now received 26 awards on the year.
Head Coach Ana Todorovic and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday when they host Queens at 7 p.m.
