Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy entered the 2026 season ranked No. 12 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll and No. 17 nationally in the USILA Poll. The Mavericks were picked second in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 10-4 last season, winning their sixth straight ECC Regular Season Championship. Mercy looks to make the ECC Tournament for the 11th straight season and qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in seven seasons. Fourth-year Head Coach Ryan MacSpadyen and the Mavericks return five ECC All-Conference selections from a year ago.

Leading the returners is junior Jake Norton who has been named Inside Lacrosse and USILA Preseason Third Team All-American. Norton was named USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honorable Mention and First Team All-ECC last season after ending the 2025 season with six assists, 35 ground balls, and six caused turnovers. Graduate student Aidan Babnik also returns after being named Second Team All-ECC last season. Babnik ended the 2025 season with 26 goals and 10 assists. Senior Devon Duchnowski is back after earning Second Team All-ECC honors last year after producing 15 goals and three assists. Senior Michael Corbo took home Second Team All-ECC in 2025 after posting 35 ground balls and sophomore Cole Hunsberger is back after being named ECC Co-Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ECC. Hunsberger had 24 goals and 11 assists last season. Junior Cameron Dorfman returns in goal for the Mavericks after going 10-4 last season with 135 saves, a .542 save percentage and 9.75 goals-against average. Dorfman was named USILA All-Region Honorable Mention, ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, ECC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-ECC as a freshman in 2024.

Junior Christopher Bergersen also returns for the Mavericks after recording 13 goals and 15 assists in 2025. Junior Justin Ortiz had three goals and 11 assists a year ago and seniors Connor Abrahall, Ryken Kutner and Jack Agres, juniors Colin Orsino and Dillon Osorio and sophomore Benjamin Salamone also return.

Senior Daniel Fitzgerald is back after starting 13 games last season. Fitzgerald had 12 caused turnovers and sophomore Nicholas Filocamo returns after producing 19 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Sophomore Gavin Lamere also returns after posting 28 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers in 2025. Sophomore Kyle Freyer had 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers in 11 games and sophomore Jackson Redmond recorded five caused turnovers in 12 games. Senior Sean Higgins started four games last year and had 10 caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Senior Joe Sorok, junior Jason Kassis, sophomores Charles Sorbello, Carter Heuer, Tomas Carr and Christopher DeGiorgio also return for the Mavericks.

Sophomore Michael Mitrano returns at the faceoff x after going 17-of-33 (.515) on faceoffs last year. Returning in goal beside Dorfman is senior Peter Murphy who recorded 35 saves, a .729 save percentage and 6.73 goals-against average in 115 minutes. Sophomore Ryan Strzalkowski also returns after recording five saves in four games last season.

Leading the transfers for the Mavericks are James Goodrich, Liam Neimeth, Trey Weinstein, Zack Ouassil, Matthew Magyar and Jack Magyar. Goodrich joins the Mavericks from Bridgeport where he recorded 37 goals, 16 assists, 53 points, and 39 ground balls in two seasons. Neimeth comes from Belmont-Abbey where he recorded 18 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers last season. Weinstein joins from Newberry College where he appeared in nine games last season with two goals and three points. Ouassil played at Newberry last season and played in nine games going 21-of-32 on faceoffs. Matthew Magyar played three seasons at Wingate with six goals and seven points in three seasons. Jack Magyar joins the Mavericks from Nassau Community College.

MacSpadyen will also look to freshmen Brody Kesselring, Dean Redmond, Karsen Pritchard, Zach Carroll, Mikey Vitale, Jared Cripps, Johnwood Altenor, Sheamus Alazraki, Jose Santiago, Jackson Wilkinson, Dillon Halloran and Dean Kott to contribute this season.

Mercy is coming off a 17-8 win over Bridgeport on Wednesday. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Cole Hunsberger who had a game-high and career-high nine points. Senior Matthew Magyar has a team-high 31 goals and is second with 38 points on the year. Sophomore Cole Hunsberger has a team-high 60 points on 29 goals and a team-high 31 assists. Junior Christopher Bergersen has 13 assists with eight goals and freshman Dean Kott has 14 goals and eight assists. Senior Jack Agres has 22 goals and six assists and senior Devon Duchnowski has eight goals and three assists. Junior Colin Orsino has seven goals and three assists and freshman Jackson Wilkinson has one goal and eight assists. Senior Connor Abrahall has nine goals and an assist and junior Justin Ortiz has one goal and five assists. Sophomore Michael Mitrano is 102-of-207 (.493) on faceoffs with a team-high 48 ground balls to go with three goals. Senior Sean Higgins has 17 caused turnovers and sophomore Nicholas Filocamo has a team-high 19 caused turnovers with 33 ground balls. Senior Daniel Fitzgerald has 13 caused turnovers. Junior Cameron Dorfman is 8-4 in goal with 119 saves, a .551 save percentage and 9.76 goals-against average. Dorfman recorded his 300th career save against Wilmington on February 21st. Murphy was named ECC Goalie of the Week and Wilkinson was tabbed Rookie of the Week and Agres, Hunsberger, Weinstein and Mitrano were named to the Honor Roll on April 20th. Agres, Duchnowski, Filocamo and Hunsberger were named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 13th. Bergersen, Dorfman, Hunsberger, Weinstein, Mitrano and Kott were named to the ECC Honor Roll on April 6th. Hunsberger, Duchnowski, Dorfman, Filocamo and Neimeth were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 30th. Hunsberger and Higgins were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 23rd. Kott and Mitrano were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 16th. Magyar and senior Peter Murphy were named to the ECC Honor Roll on March 9th. Fitzgerald was named to the USILA D2 Team of the Week on March 3rd and Hunsberger and Fitzgerald were named to the ECC Honor Roll. Higgins was named to the USILA D2 Team of the Week on February 25th and Dorfman and Hunsberger were named to the ECC Honor Roll. Magyar was named ECC Player of the Week on February 16th and Dorfman was tabbed Goalie of the Week.

Mercy is receiving votes nationally in the USILA poll and is ranked No. 17 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine poll. The Mavericks are ranked ninth in the second NCAA North Regional Rankings released on Wednesday. Mercy can secure their 11th straight ECC Championship berth with a win on Saturday. Peter Murphy, Sean Higgins, Devon Duchnowski, Michael Corbo, Daniel Fitzgerald, Cameron Dorfman, Aidan Babnik, Christopher Bergersen, Joe Sorok, Ryken Kutner, Jack Agres, Connor Abrahall and Matthew Magyar will be honored prior to the game.

Scouting the Saints

D'Youville is coming off a 16-8 loss to Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. The Saints were picked fifth in the ECC Preseason Poll after going 6-8 last season. D'Youville has been led by Obrigh Tallchief who has a team-high 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists. Graham Sholett has 25 goals and five assists and Stefano Evan has 14 goals and 13 assists. Logan Schwartz has a team-high 28 caused turnovers and 57 ground balls and Darryl Cooper is 80-203 (.394) on faceoffs. Casey Berns has 154 saves, a .535 save percentage and 12.92 goals-against average.
