Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy looks to snap a five-game losing streak after starting the season 3-1. The Mavericks faced tough competition down in Myrtle Beach, taking on three teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year. Leading the Mavericks at the dish is sophomore John Mooradian who is batting a team-best .382 with 13 hits and ten runs scored. Junior Anthony Murphy leads the team with 15 RBI and has two home runs with nine hits in 34 at bats. Ranking second on the team in RBI are senior Ralph Pasols and junior Adonis Garcia. Garcia has a team-high-tying two home runs on the year and has a team-best .636 slugging percentage. Pacing the pitching staff is freshman Jack Kelly who has pitched to an impressive 2.38 ERA in 11 1/3 innings in two starts. The bullpen has been led by junior Oscar Marcial who has tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings to begin the season in five appearances.
Scouting the Bears
Bloomfield has opened the season with a 2-0-1 record against Nyack and Lincoln. The Bears were picked third in the CACC North Division Preseason Coaches Poll and went 18-22 last season making it the CACC Tournament. Bloomfield has been led by Cristopher Cabral who is batting a team-best .500 with a team-high three RBI and four hits. Khalid Legette also has three RBI on the year and is batting .364 after three games. The pitching staff is led by Steven Acosta who tossed three innings with one run allowed against Lincoln on Sunday to earn the win.
Scouting the Chargers
New Haven enters this weekend's games with a 4-0 record after beating Wilmington, Concordia, Queens and Felician. The Chargers are currently ranked No. 3 in the East Region according to the NCBWA and are coming off a season in which they went 31-13 with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. New Haven was led by Joe Caico who was named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week after hitting .500 with two doubles, a triple and a home run. The pitching staff is led by David Palmer who has posted a 0.00 ERA in seven innings pitched with a 1-0 record. Tim Kennedy also excels on the bump with a 1-0 record and 1.50 ERA in six innings.
