DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2021) – Mercy College women's soccer senior Sydney Cooper (Long Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) and graduate student Nikki Bermudez (Oceanside, N.Y./New York Tech) have been named Second Team All-East Region by the United Soccer Coaches. The duo helped lead the Mavericks to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history.
Cooper earns Second Team All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches for the first time after being a Third Team selection in 2019. She was named First Team All-Region by the D2CCA last month, ECC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ECC. The senior started all 21 games and had one goal and two assists. She scored the game-tying goal in Mercy's 1-1 tie at Adelphi on September 9th. Cooper helped lead a defense that surrendered just 14 goals in 21 games and played a team-high 1,902 minutes.
Bermudez takes home All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches for the first time after being named a Second Team All-Region selection by the D2CCA last month. She was named First Team All-ECC and was second on the team in goals (5) and points (13). She scored the game-winning goal in Mercy's season-opening win over Southern Connecticut State on September 3rd and assisted on the game-winning goal in Mercy's Second Round NCAA Tournament win over Molloy on November 20th.
