DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 16, 2023) – Mercy College softball seniors Samantha Franck (La Habra Heights, Calif./La Habra), Alexi Benson (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend), Sydney Johnston (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) and Nicole Smart (Santa Clarita, Calif./Golden Valley) and junior Mia Harris (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) have been named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Softball Team.
Franck earns a spot on the All-District Team for the first time. The senior currently holds a 3.72 GPA as a Biology major. The native of La Habra Heights, California was named First Team All-ECC after hitting .289 with 16 runs, 35 hits, eight doubles, 27 RBI and a team-high six home runs. She recorded her 100th career hit against D'Youville on April 23rd.
Benson receives All-District honors for the first time. The senior currently has a 3.83 GPA as Sports Management major. The native of Fredericksburg, Virginia went 6-13 in the circle with a 3.73 ERA in 135 innings with 99 strikeouts. The pitcher also set a school record for career strikeouts.
Johnston is named All-District for the third straight year. The senior currently has a 3.97 GPA as a Communication Disorders major. The one-time ECC Player of the Week was named First Team All-ECC after hitting .288 with a team-high 31 RBI to go along with 14 runs, 36 hits, 11 doubles and two home runs.
Smart takes home All-District honors for the first time. The senior has a 3.63 GPA as a Business Marketing major. The native of Santa Clarita, California hit .258 with 18 RBI, five doubles, 10 runs and 32 hits.
Harris earns a spot on the All-District Team for the first time. The junior has a 3.80 GPA as a Communication Disorders major. The native of West Harrison, New York started 39 games and had 16 hits, seven runs, four RBI and five stolen bases.
